COLUMBIA – Late last night, the Senate passed a 12-cent-per-gallon gas tax hike by a vote of 34-10, a veto proof majority. Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina vocally advocated against the passage of a gas tax increase and expressed disappointment in last night’s decision.
AFP-South Carolina Regional Director Phillip Joffrion issued the following statement:
“We are extremely disappointed by the Senate’s decision to pass a gas tax hike on residents of South Carolina. There is no debate that South Carolina’s roads need repair, but with a DOT that is still totally unaccountable to the people, we fear that this gas tax increase will be essentially meaningless. While this loss represents a setback for the people of South Carolina, there is still important work to be done this legislative session and Americans for Prosperity will be there.”
