As a former resident of Florida who weathered two back to back Hurricanes in 2006 here’s a few tips. Put freezer items in your washer, as the ice melts the water drains away. Be sure to fill your tub to flush toilets. We had no power for three weeks and most were out for more than six. We only got our power back early because we were near a hospital and police station. Nowadays you can buy solar to generate power phones and small appliances. Red Cross has an inexpensive power generator that is cranked by hand. It would be very helpful if more folks could send along their tips as well. Stay Safe y’all

Hurricane Joaquin didn’t make landfall in South Carolina in 2015; but it sat off the coast of South Carolina sending a torrential river of rain to South Carolina. It caused numerous dam failures, and nearly brought Columbia’s water supply to the brink of collaps when it blew a hole in the Columbia Canal. I don’t remember if it were SCANA, or The Dominion, that owned the Lake Murray dam at the time, but they opened the spillway gates to relieve pressure on the dam

“The Dominion” makes it sound like the owners live on the other side of a wormhole.
