Officer-Involved Shooting In Colleton County, S.C.

Suspect fatally shot after allegedly pulling knife on officer …

A fatal officer-involved shooting has taken place in Colleton County, South Carolina, multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed to this news outlet.

The shooting took place near Walterboro, S.C., and involved a female deputy of the Colleton County sheriff’s office.

Agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) – who handle the vast majority of officer-related shooting investigations in the Palmetto State – were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and initiate their inquiry.

According to reporter Patrick Phillips of WCSC TV 5 (CBS – Charleston, S.C.), the deputy involved in the incident was “not injured.”

The same cannot be said for the suspect, however. According to Colleton County sheriff R.A. Strickland, the yet-to-be-identified suspect – who allegedly came at the deputy with a knife – died as a result of his wounds.

Strickland told reporters that his deputy – who was responding to an attempted burglary at a local church – attempted to resolve the standoff peacefully prior to the suspect moving toward her with the knife.
