Given our founding editor Will Folks‘ unique history on this subject, you’d think this news site would have been all over the recent allegations of an affair between U.S. president Donald Trump and his ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley.
Rumors about an alleged affair between Trump and Haley were hinted at last week by author Michael Wolff, whose book Fire and Fury has become a Washington, D.C. sensation.
During a Friday appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Wolff claimed Trump was having an affair “right now” – and that hints as to the identity of the woman were contained in his book.
“Now that I’ve told you, when you hit that paragraph you’re going to say bingo,” Wolff told Maher.
Numerous outlets immediately began to cite references in Wolff’s book to Haley, a one-time #NeverTrumper who has become his leading voice on foreign policy matters and a rumored 2020 presidential candidate.
In particular, these articles cited Wolff’s reference to Trump spending a “notable amount of private time” with Haley aboard Air Force One as part of his efforts to “groom her” as his possible successor.

Some of the articles covering the Trump/ Haley speculation even referenced Folks’ 2007 affair with Haley, with one national author asserting that our founding editor “backtracked” and “took down the blog posts” related to his history with the former South Carolina governor.
Both of those statements are inaccurate. Here is Folks’ original post on the matter. Here is the documentation for his narrative. And here is his 2010 affidavit on the subject.
Nothing has been taken down. And there has been no backtracking.
In fact, Folks was also asked numerous questions about his affair with Haley in a September 2015 deposition related to his ongoing source protection case – and he answered each question truthfully. Under oath.
Having said all of that, do we believe the allegations of an affair between Trump and Haley?
No …
Would we care even if they were true?
No …
Trump’s job is to administer the executive branch of the federal government and to negotiate with congress in a manner consistent with the promises he made while campaigning in 2016. Haley’s job is to represent the United States at the UN in a manner conforming to Trump’s instructions.
Both should be judged on how well they are doing their jobs … period.
