RICHARD YEARGIN TO MISS 2017 SEASON
Clemson University’s defending national championship football team has lost one of its defensive players for the upcoming season.
Two-year letterman Richard Yeargin – a 6-foot-5, 250-pound redshirt junior from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida – will miss the entire 2017 season after suffering a neck injury in an automobile accident over the weekend. Yeargin was listed as a second-team defensive end following Clemson’s 2017 spring practice.
“Richard suffered the same type of injury that Mike Williams had in 2015 as the result of an automobile accident over the weekend,” Tigers’ head coach Dabo Swinney. “The good news is that he will be fine long term. He will miss this season as he recovers.”
Yeargin recorded fifteen tackles in ten games as a freshman in 2015 and had fourteen tackles – including four tackles for loss – in twelve games during Clemson’s 2016 national title run.
We wish him a speedy recovery …
Clemson begins its title defense on Saturday September 2 at home against Kent State. The following week the Tigers host Southeastern Conference (SEC) western division powerhouse Auburn.
After losing fourteen in a row to the Tigers from the Plains, Clemson has won its last three matchups against Auburn.
