COP INJURED …
Lexington Medical Center was placed on lockdown early Thursday morning following an incident at the hospital’s main campus in West Columbia, S.C.
The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. EDT, according to our sources.
Witnesses heard a gunshot and saw a hospital security officer go down, prompting concerns that the officer had been shot. Other reports attested to some sort of “confrontation” between the officer and the suspect, during which the officer is reported to have fired off at least one round from his weapon – ostensibly in self-defense.
The suspect was captured moments later by deputies of the Lexington County sheriff’s department.
S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) spokesman Thom Berry confirmed that there was an “officer involved” incident at the hospital and that SLED agents were responding.

According to Berry, the wounded officer is a member of the hospital’s private police force and is being treated for “non life-threatening injuries.”
According to hospital officials, those injuries were sustained when the suspect’s car struck the officer.
“At 7:45 this morning, a Lexington Medical Center Public Safety officer responded to a situation with a person in a car outside on the hospital campus,” hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Wilson said in a statement. “The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries after the car struck him.”
Wilson’s statement added that “at this time, there is no risk to visitors, patients or staff at Lexington Medical Center.”
