SOURCES: AGENCY IS UNDER AT LEAST ONE STATE INVESTIGATION …

Last December, this website ran an exclusive report addressing allegations of kickbacks, nepotism, sex scandals and a host of other abuses reportedly transpiring at the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD).

“The agency is rife with scandal – most notably the misappropriation of taxpayer money through questionable ‘outsourcing’ contracts,” we wrote at the time, referring to information obtained from multiple whistleblowers.

After laying out several of these allegations, our post urged various investigative bodies within state government to begin the process of uncovering the truth at SCVRD and, if appropriate, holding the agency’s leadership accountable for its bad behavior.

Looks like we could be getting our wish …

At least one state agency with oversight authority has reportedly opened an investigation into SCVRD.  The goal of this probe?  Getting to the bottom of some of the dubious behavior our whistleblowers claim has gone down at this agency, which is supposed to be helping disabled residents secure “competitive employment.”

Not helping bureaucrats get rich …

SCVRD is run by a panel of gubernatorial appointments who are given seven-year terms.  It has a budget of $166.8 million for the fiscal year that began in July.

Anyway, our website was recently provided with information related to this ongoing probe – as well as several documents state investigators have reportedly obtained as part of their efforts to follow the money at SCVRD.

We believe our readers will find these documents very interesting.

We’ve also been provided with some interesting details about how the agency’s leaders allegedly conspired with certain lawmakers in an effort to discredit our previous reporting … which of course only turns us on.

Stay tuned … lots more to come …
