CONTROVERSIAL BILL WOULD REQUIRE “PORCINE IDENTIFICATION”

A South Carolina Senator has filed legislation which would require anyone transporting live hogs in the Palmetto State to register each pig with the state.

“No live swine shall be transported on a public road within the State unless the swine has an official form of identification approved by the State Veterinarian for this purpose,” reads S. 846, a bill introduced by S.C. Senator Danny Verdin.

In fact, “any live swine that is transported on a public road within this State without identification as required by this section is presumed to be a feral swine.”

Jeez … really?

One question: What about all the porkers in the S.C. General Assembly?

The ones feeding off your labor …

Oh right … they are definitely feral swine. No “presumption” necessary.

Not surprisingly, this legislation would impose a new fee on pig farmers.  Specifically, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) “shall adopt rules to charge any swine owner a fee for the identification required under this section.”

Of interest?  Verdin’s father and brother are both veterinarians.  And not just that, Christian veterinarians.  In fact his father, D.B. Verdin, was “influenced by his strong Christian faith, and desired to use his God-given gifts to help his animal patients and their loving owners,” according to his website bio.

“He truly feels that his veterinary work is a form of worship,” Verdin’s bio adds.

Sheesh …

Where to start …

Ridiculous, those jerks in Columbia better Google the name Tom Black and see how that worked out for him. Lawmakers and Bureaucrats get together, pass a Law requiring something or another, and lo and behold, they leave their measly jobs, start a business, and become the solution to compliance. For a nice fee that is…..

General Stillwell, in a book he wrote, told of a Chinese General who captured a large area in the Burma area, The General discovered a warehouse with about two million bicycle tires in it — what the hell do you do with bicycle tires during a war? He ordered that all rickshaws must have rubber tires — sold out! Then he ordered a tax on all rubber tires on rickshaws. Stillwell said the General knew how to get them both coming and going!

His grandfather in his house of logs said the world was going to the dogs,

His grandfather in his leather togs said the world was going to the dogs.

His grandfather in the Scottish bogs said the worldwas going to the dogs.

The only thing I have to state is that the dogs have had a mighty long wait

Ok. I was driving in the country one day when my car broke down. I could see a farmhouse in the distance. I began to walk through the woods to see if I could get help there. As I got close I saw the farmer holding a little piglet up to a persimmon tree so the pig could eat the fruit. Curious, I asked “what are you doing there my friend?”
“Well, this pig loves persimmons and persimmons will make him get fat! So I hold him up here so he can get to ’em.”
“Well” I said, “that may be true, but it’s going to take a long time!”
He just looked at me and said, “What’s time to a pig?”

As long as it doesn’t affect the quality of our barbeque they can register it, license it or dress it up in a tutu for all I care.

Reply
TroubleBaby January 29, 2016 at 9:27 am

This regulation will increase costs, which will not only raise the price of BBQ, but as a result could lower the quality in an effort to keep costs down.

Looks like a handout guild style to veterinarians to me.

Let’s not take a moment to realize that *some* hunters trap feral hogs to transport to other areas for paid hunts. Then those hog reproduce and the plague is off and running in a new area.

Feral hogs are a huge menace to wild life, farmers and every other thing they come across. Will, we all know you get one side of a story, paid some money, and you push whatever bullshit your clients ask you too – but this is the definition of a proper role of state government.

Dumb shit.

You haven’t figured out that everyone has a different definition of the proper role of government yet huh?

Anyway, I’m sure there’s a myriad of other ways this could be handled outside of requiring veterinarian endorsed pigs for travel- once again demonstrating that most government solutions resemble cleavers, not scalpel’s.

Not only is the destruction done by feral hogs a problem, maybe the true threat is brucellosis, as SC is a brucellosis “free” state (as well as pseudorabies free). While SC is considered brucellosis free in farm-raised pigs, the disease is present in feral hogs. The spread of brucellosis into farm-raised pigs potentially could be a significant impact to hog producers.
