our military knows that if one of our pilots currently bombing isis were to be shot down and captured, he or she would be filmed in a cage being burned alive, there were boots on the ground to prevent that before the first sortie was flown.

Obama will eventually find some way to mangle and contort this “advise and assist ” mission into a “diplomatic mission.”
In fact, this is a combat mission, limited and highly directed, but still a combat mission.

You can be assured that these aren’t actually the first troops in country (just the first publicly acknowledged ones). In regard to the number of operatives in theater, a tipping point exists that will make it just about statistically certain that an American military service-member will be captured eventually. I’ve been out of the game for a few years so I don’t profess to know the ground truth in Syria these days, but I know that we just inched a little closer to that tipping point. The punchline there is that once Joe Lunchbox, the People of Walmart, and the US populace watch one of our soldiers beheaded or burned alive on YouTube, the conditions have been perfected for the War Hawks to swoop right in and buy us another unnecessary war in that thoroughly shitty part of the world. Just something to think about…

Hasn’t there long been a desire to put an oil or gas pipeline across Afghanistan (and then Pakistan)? Haven’t some big money boys been salivating for this for a while? Or maybe it is geopolitical to get oil out of “the stans” and away from Russia. There is probably more than ’saving Afghanistan” or fighting ISIS.

As a country, and with Obama as the Commander-in-Chief, this operation has the possibility of going off track quickly, especially if Russia sees this as an opportunity to embarrass the US and Obama. Not saying they would instigate any conflict with us, but they are in a position to make our effort much more tedious.
As Obama has proved in the past, he does not think well on his feet, the Iranian deal, the Berdaghl affair, the Moscow meeting with Putin, etc..
