Some years ago, there was a heated discussion on a local TV station’s web site that came to involve some affliction or another a child involved in the thread story was said to have had. There was a lot of hand-wringing and such by some of the commentors, one of whom was going on about how she wanted to create “awareness” regarding one or another situations said to involve the child in the story.

One lady who commented on the thread coined a phrase that was so on-target for that situation and many, many, others, I doubt that I will ever forget it. The phrase was, “good cause awareness fatigue”. She noted how on an almost daily basis, we are inundated with worthy cause story after worthy cause story. While most of them probably are worthy causes of concern, many of us do begin to develope a degree of fatigue, hearing of a new worthy cause; day after day, after day.

It seems that there are no shortages of people ready to identify, raise awareness of, and begin soliciting contributions of money, time, labor, or other commodities often found in short supply in our harried daily lives, for the next “good cause”. Geeze people, where will it all end?

Maybe you can start a GoFundMe to raise awareness of Good Cause Awareness Fatigue.

The Greater Midlands Chapter of the Good Cause Awareness Fatigue Foundation (GM-GCAFF) will be holding its annual GCAF awarness .25K run/walk/sprint/crawl/wheel chair/stilettos race this weekend. The starting line will be at the South Carolina Capital in front of the Confederate Memorial and the race will end at Gervais and Assembly. Registration fee is $25.00 per adult, $10.00/child and $10,000.00 for each political or media organization exploiting the cause for votes, clicks or contributions. All checks should be made payable to Columbia Area Special Helpers (use the initials CASH). Registration fees can be mailed to the GM-GCAFF or paid in person at the starting line.

We would like to take a moment to thank our sponsors and volunteers that help us put on this event.

City of Columbia Waste-water Division for handling all the shit generated. (The brown plant with the blue smiley face in the corner,)

Columbia Radio Amateurs with Portables (CRAP) for providing communication support along the almost 2 block route.

The members of the Columbia Police Department who were forced to come out and provide traffic control by someone at headquarters that hasn’t seen actual street duty in 20 years.

The members of the Columbia Fire Department for providing medical support instead of being available for actual emergencies such as vehicle accidents, building fires, brush fires and chemical spills.

The faculty and students of the University of South Carolina for passing out water bottles after drinking most of the water themselves to overcome their massive Saturday Morning hangovers.

Lastly and certainly least the current members of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center center who cleaned-up the State House Grounds and the surrounding streets last year after our race. It looked like a someone scattered the trash and human waste from 10 occupy camps when we left to go eat and pass out feel good trophies.

“… raise awareness …” charities are usually to be avoided. They just take your money then go around and talk it up … to raise more money.

This whole load of fraudulent “awareness” charities has it’s roots in the Scientology/est-hole/cult-for-hire word twisting propaganda machines of self promotion for gain and using newspeak as a weapon. … Almost as bad as the political swamp of “ideas”.
