IT’S REAL … WHETHER THE MEDIA WANTS TO COVER IT OR NOT

|| By FITSNEWS || This website continues to believe in the indomitable American spirit … even as we mock the mainstream media apologists who invoke the “indomitable American spirit” as they provide cover for those who would seek to kill it.

We’re referring of course to the “rainbow and unicorn” crowd … mainstream media outlets fed by the “one percenters” who would have you believe all is well with the U.S. economy.

It isn’t … as the latest labor participation and retail spending data clearly demonstrate.

But the lack of quality jobs and stagnant income levels aren’t occurring in a vacuum.  There’s a good reason a record number of working age Americans are out of the work force …

One big reason?  The death of American innovation … courtesy of the government that stole money out of your pockets to protect those deemed “too big to fail.”

It’s the whole “center cannot hold” theme we often invoke in writing about the American middle class – which is forced to subsidize unprecedented dependency on one end of the spectrum and rampant crony capitalism on the other.

And God forbid politicians try and cut even a dime of that spending …

Anyway, what does the perpetuation of this welfare/ corporate dependency mean for the vast majority of Americans who are simply trying to scratch out a living?

Take a look courtesy of Gallup …

census firms

(Chart: Via)

“The percentage of new businesses created (in 2008) was smaller than the percentage of businesses that closed down,” Gallup’s Benjamin Ryan noted. “In other words, the birth rate of new businesses dropped below the death rate for the first time since these metrics were first recorded — and that downward track has continued.”

The reason?

“A crucial factor influencing the declining rate of U.S. startups is a decline in the personal savings rate,” Ryan wrote.

Well duh …

When government sucks up so much of people’s personal incomes trying to sustain the unsustainable … it deprives them of the ability to invest in their ideas.  That means less innovation, lost jobs, lower incomes and lackluster growth.

Gallup’s chairman and CEO Jim Clifton put the disturbing numbers in context – noting how American now stacks up compared to the rest of the world (and calling the media out for their silence on the issue).

“The U.S. now ranks not first, not second, not third, but 12th among developed nations in terms of business startup activity.  Countries such as Hungary, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Sweden, Israel and Italy all have higher startup rates than America does,” Clifton wrote.  “We are behind in starting new firms per capita, and this is our single most serious economic problem. Yet it seems like a secret. You never see it mentioned in the media, nor hear from a politician that, for the first time in 35 years, American business deaths now outnumber business births.”

Amen …

Again .. we wanna be “rainbows and unicorns” about the economy.  We really do.  But the fundamentals simply aren’t there … and it’s about time more of those who bring you the news were honest about that (and the reasons why).

The middle class has been under attack since the 1980s. The wealth of the middle class boomed from 1933 through 1980. What happened. The move to a trickle down economics policies and abandonment of any effort to make government work for a majority of Americans. Tax cuts for the rich, and screw everyone else became the goal of the Republican Party. That is what happened to the middle class.

The country can be restored, but it will take a concerted effort to push money out of politics and a government, dedicated to what is best for the Middle Class. The rich can take care of themselves and the poor will fare better under policies designed to benefit a majority of Americans.

Yes, but the start date goes back to “read my lips” … and the killing of the Reagan Tax Cuts.

One can not expect innovators to have their rewards stripped away just at the cusp of real wealth creation. This is why Steve Jobs never took a salary when he returned to Apple. That was a simple tax dodge.

Reply
GrandTango January 14, 2015 at 8:34 pm

Since Read my lips, we’ve had GOP-implemented welfare-to-work reform and a balanced budget that Republicans forced Clinton to sign…..

Bush cut taxes significantly and won a war – fairly cheaply- that Congress voted us into…

And the US military showed @$$-backward stone-aged thinking Muslim religious nuts that the US WILL do what Clinton threatened over and over….It was a lesson to them until Obama and the media took the side of the brutal murderers and Jihadists…and let all those lives go to waste…because the lefts hate American Conservatives — and sympathizes w/ Islam…

There are not many sites to post in SC, if you are a Conservative…And liberals are VERY closed-minded and big on censoring any thought not in NAZI lockstep w/ theirs…at least FITS is smart enough to let me and you w/ a couple others -double the level of interest in his site…If not for us, it would be VERY boring…and not much different than the DNC’s site…

Well, blaming all democrats for the plite of the wage earner is certainly a stretch.

The worst offender is the bloated national bureaucracy, the Central Planning Screw-ups in the ever expanding, ever taxing, ever over-regulating, ever more pointless, ever more greedy … and ever more stifling of innovation.

GrandTango January 15, 2015 at 1:03 pm

Democrats have done FAR more to expand the bureaucracy than Republicans… and again…the ONLY party that I know of to CUT taxes is the Republican Party. Whereas the Democrats ALWAYS raise taxes….(see Obamacare)….

grandtangosuglydog January 15, 2015 at 10:39 am

So you dont remember that the GOP controlled all three house of Govt till 2007? two piss poorly planned wars, one completely unnecessary, the biggest attack on US soil in history, gas at the highest prices in history, the biggest recession since the depression, the greatest transfer of wealth from the middle class to the upper class and it goes on and on and on, yet its all the dems fault, couldn’t get a single bill through..but yeppers all their fault because telling the actual truth would destroy your twisted fucked up version of reality,,so in spite of all the facts (you will need to look up the meaning of the word “facts”) its all the dems fault.

GrandTango January 15, 2015 at 3:42 pm

You have spoken of your work for the ‘unborn’ yet post like a liberal on most issues/policy.

My guess is you are like most liberals and your world-view is based on being liked HOWEVER you deserve praise for your stance on ‘life’ issues.

The Colonel January 15, 2015 at 12:01 am

I’m easy, I’m personally very conservative, believe in personal responsibility and am fairly conservative in my politics. All of that said, I am not blindly following a Republican line, instead favoring a conservative line – they’re not the same thing and haven’t been for a while.

Arguing “when and how” the middle class got killed is stupid. The “when” is as simple as looking at the numbers. 1999 was the peak. There was a gentle glide down beginning in ’99 and then an equally gentle glide up to ’07 on a graph that era looks like a hammock. However, the overall trend was downward. Pat ’07, the trend has been a not so Henrik downward glide path.

The “how” is ridiculously complex. Money policy and the housing bubble, tax policy and the cost of the war, borrowing from”China” and our failure to secure our on energy sources you can mix them all and add any number of other causations. The big problem we Americans have is that we want it all, we want it now and don’t give a damn about the real costs.

grandtangosuglydog January 15, 2015 at 10:32 am

Probably because you are just too stupid to have differing opinions than what your Gods Sarah “Too stupid for the real world” Palin or Sean Hannity tell you think..many of us have economically conservative beliefs but middle of the road beliefs on some social issues..but then again you honestly believe that someone years ago said..lets breed a Muslim to infiltrate the US govt, lets make him black and with a single parent..yeah, yeah thats the ticket..so after that every point you make is open to scorn and laughter..im sure you are use to it by now..

GrandTango January 15, 2015 at 1:10 pm

Many people want the character and success of a Conservative…but they cannot stand up to the hate and persecution. So they pander and capitulate to pop culture and the liberals to be liked and heard…FITS has some of those same tendencies…Boz Is textbook of one who wants so badly to be relevant, w/ nothing to offer in the way of insight or creativity…

Also: Note the level of HATRED from the liberals on here. I BET they would physically harm me, murder me, if they could…They are that shallow and lacking in stature…

These are very intelligence-poor people…who act on emotion, and are not used being defined for who, and what, they really are…They are use to being patted on the head for being nice little lockstep liberal lemmings…

Liberals, as these idiots indicate, are truly like Hitler or Stalin. They are wrong, hateful…and would exterminate people who call them out for the pieces of $#!t that they are…if they could…

They are very dangerous if not checked…

It was a box full of stuff that made his luggage over weight, maybe forty pounds. The airlines wanted several hundred dollars in overage fees and I figured the USPS would be much cheaper – hah! USPS wanted four hundred dollars. The box sat on a shelf in my garage until the friend came home on furlough…

Definitely not educational institutions, scientists, inventors, upstarts, and so on, that may rely on pesky statist things like government funding! Because, if innovation did come from those latter things, then people might question why conservatives and libertarians want to butcher funding to “pseudo” innovators, as we have been doing over the last several decades, and which clearly is reflected in many different studies across the world.

The real question is, how can we grease the palms of billionaires via tax breaks, decreased regulation, and more free funbux via subsidies to increase, um, err… “Innovation!”

Obscure statistic cherry picked to fit fitsnews narrative.
So we are 12th behind a bunch of small countries.

Focus the rage Fits. The economy is improving…but only for the monied class.

Income inequality is the real enemy here, and before you label me a pinko communist…ask yourself when’s the last time you got a raise? Has your employer raised your health insurance premium again. Has your employer decided to combine both sick and holiday leave into just “leave with pay”? Have you calculated how many years it will take of work on your salary to retire with even enough to avoid going on welfare at 3.5% being fed into your crappy 401K?

Simple fix. Aggressively tax high income earners and corporations. The path is clear but the way is blocked (i.e. US Congress).

Fine! How about a whooping big tax cut for the poor instead?

Looks a lot worse when you start the vertical axis chart at 7%.

——– “The U.S. now ranks not first, not second, not third, but 12th among developed nations in terms of business startup activity.  Countries such as Hungary, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Sweden, Israel and Italy all have higher startup rates than America does,” Clifton wrote.
I have tried to find where Clifton got this data. What other countries are we behind? Who are we ahead of? Everyone is quoting Clifton but there is no reference and a search predating his statement comes up with nothing.

“The percentage of new businesses created (in 2008) was smaller than the percentage of businesses that closed down,” Gallup’s Benjamin Ryan noted.
THAT WAS 2008!!! — 2008 —- YOU REMEMBER THE FINANCIAL MELTDOWN

Excellent!

Btw: generally, those countries rising in the “new startup” list have a standout characteristic … They all have flat or close to flat income taxes.

Obamacare to the economy was like a middle aged man suddenly adding 30 pounds of weight. It held him back for a few years and still slows him down but he has kinda gotten used to it.

In a free market, you have the inalienable right to fail. Your innovation may be bought out and kept off the market, to be “invented” by the buyer later, your saddlery may lose out to the horseless carriage. The adding machine and slide rule may well remove rows of desks of clerk from managing data as more advanced computing engines further outdate existing methods.
Now where can I have this Royal typewriter cleaned and get a new ribbon or two for it?

RE: “the center cannot hold”

A Yeats reference is always welcome.

****

THE SECOND COMING

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

— William Butler Yeats, January 1919
