SOUTH CAROLINA CONGRESSMAN “WALKING THE WALK”

|| By FITSNEWS ||  Striking a blow for taxpayers, U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan announced this week that he will not support the renomination of fiscally liberal “Republican” Speaker of the House John Boehner.

In a message posted to his Facebook page, Duncan noted “change should start with the election of a new Speaker.”

Wow … that’s seismic, people.  Not to mention an increasingly rare example of an elected official demonstrating genuine courage.

“I believe a new Speaker of the House would send the signal to the American people that we’re hearing their concerns while also letting the President know that Congress is committed to upholding the rule of law,” Duncan added. “It’s time for Congress (to) act boldly and to unabashedly defend the Constitution of the United States and promote an agenda of limited government, free markets, and individual liberty.”

That, ladies and gentleman, is called “walking the walk.” It’s also called being accountable to the people who elected you – as polls have shown a majority of those who voted for the new “Republican” Congress are fed up with Boehner.

Now the key question: Will the other members of South Carolina’s “Republican” delegation – all of whom claim to be fiscal conservatives – follow suit?

Last time we checked it wasn’t looking so good …

Fiscally liberal U.S. Reps. Tom Rice and Joe Wilson – both “Republicans” in name only – have already pledged to support Boehner.  Which was no big shock.

U.S. Reps. Trey Gowdy and Mick Mulvaney, on the other hand, are also supporting Boehner – a position entirely at odds with their consistent pro-free market votes in the U.S. Congress.

Earlier this week, we challenged South Carolina’s “Republican” delegation to oppose Boehner’s renomination – calling it a “gut check” vote.

“South Carolina’s congressional delegation has amassed some real credibility on fiscal issues,” we wrote.  “We’d hate to see them blow it with one vote.”

Boehner is the poster child for GOP accommodation of the administration of Barack Obama – an ongoing ideological betrayal that always seems to come at the expense of your wallet.  And your liberty.  And it’s not just when the going gets tough … this guy caves before the fights even begin.

“We’ve never had much use for Boehner, who has been utterly worthless except for two areas: Capitulating … and getting drunk,” we wrote recently.

Duncan has taken a principled stand against this chronic equivocation – and in doing so has thrown down the gauntlet for the rest of the South Carolina delegation.

Let’s hope they grow some stones and pick it up …

UPDATE: Worth noting … South Carolina’s former third district representative, Gresham Barrett, had a similarly consistent pro-free market record during his tenure in the U.S. Congress.  But then he pissed it all away by supporting the Bush bailout vote.  It’s nice to see Duncan standing firm on a major vote.

Of course. He has to keep his teatardy base happy and frothing at the mouth, which will happen when Boehner is named Speaker again.

It amazes me that people would actually prefer having that lunatic Gohmert than Boehner. Over on Mulvaney’s Facebook there are hundreds of demands to vote for that nutball Louie or they will vote Mick out next go around.

I’m not amazed, I’m sure a large number of teabaggers look at Gohmert the Goober and see a lot of themselves in him. Same as with Failin’ Palin, O’Donnell the Good Witch, Rick Perry the, uh… um… Oops, George W. Bush the Misunderestimated, Bachmann the Batshit Crazy, etc.

No shortage of role models for the educationally stunted to latch on to.

That’s correct. This guy keeps on trying to make himself look good, and his embellishments keep getting bigger and bigger. But he says that every time he makes a decision he prays to Jesus for the answer!!!!

THIS JUST IN FROM SPARTANBURG H/J!!!!!!
Gowdy did not vote becasue his flight was canceled (what a bunch of BS)!!!!!
Spartanburg H/J also quotes Gowdy as saying IF he COULD have voted, he would vote for Boehner and supports him as House Speaker. So much for you thinking he had some spine
Hell, he had to after getting that “little Benghazi plum” from Beohnerwhich has been the biggest fizzle in recent history.

I have contacted Rice’s office and ask he not vote for Boehner the first go round so he may pay attention. I am one of those who feel I waste my vote because I refuse to vote for a Godless Democrat but it is time to take a stand. Boehner is just filling his pockets while laughing at Conservatives!

John is NOT laughing at conservatives. Look at the end game. Republicans in congress will chip away at Obamacare while the ‘expanded’ Medicaid bankrupts states and patients can’t find doctors, premiums on exchanges are skyrocketing and SCOTUS will finish ACA off in June.

No immigration reform as Obama’s E/O gives NO path to citizenship OR voting. This gave John an out on immigration.

Democrats are finished.

You still owe me for that dime bag you’ve been smoking. They just funded Obamacare for the year. They’ll repeal the device tax, claim victory, allocate an additional 38 billion to expand to other states, and call it a day. Eric Cantor was quoted yesterday saying the new Congress should stay away from Obamacare. To confrontational. And then they’ll pass immigration reform with amnesty and a pathway to citizenship because Jeb needs Latino voters.

Rocky January 6, 2015 at 11:08 am

BTW – premiums on exchanges are NOT skyrocketing. Trying using some credible sources for news dufus.

Smirks January 6, 2015 at 11:50 am

Republicans will likely pass some stupid anti-ACA bill through reconciliation just to watch Obama veto it into oblivion, shrug, and move on to serving their corporate masters instead.

It’s cute you think otherwise, though.

It’ll be amazing when the establishment Republicans want to start doing their usual shit and keep getting dragged down by the tea nuts in the party. One can only hope that forces the establishment Republicans to wheel and deal with the Democrats instead of the more extremist elements in their party.

I’m probably being too optimistic though.

Jeff Duncan is going to throw his vote to some other SOB because Boehner is a shoe in to win.

It’s no different than a “Libertarian” voting for Gary Johnson in the 2012 election because their state is blood red and will go to Romney either way, or voting for Steve French or Thomas Ravenel in the 2014 election because their state is, yet again, blood red and will go to Nikki Haley and Lindsey Graham, respectively.

It’s easy to stand on principle when it isn’t going to make a damn lick of difference what you do, and Jeffy’s going to get votes for it, so why not? Piss in that ocean with pride, brutha.

Jeff Duncan, Steve King and Rod Blum are kingmakers in early states. Presidential candidates will distance themselves from Boehner. Even Christie will with his buddy Steve King.
