|| By FITSNEWS || She’s repeatedly said she’s not running for national office, but the “Nikki Haley for President” bandwagon (such as it is) rolls on. In fact an article discussing the national aspirations of South Carolina’s governor appeared on the NewsMax website this week.
The article briefly noted Haley “has been hinting at a possible run for the White House in 2016” before launching into “what five leading pundits are saying about the country’s youngest serving governor.”
Among these “leading pundits?” Will Folks, the founding editor of the website you are currently reading (who also happens to be Haley’s former advisor, ex-lover and harshest critic).
So … what did he have to say about Haley?
“She’s always been tough and very focused, and I think uniquely talented in her ability to focus on what needs to be done, and kind of ignore the rest,” Folks said, according to NewsMax’s Susan Pascal.
Wow … that’s incredibly complimentary. In fact one source sent Folks a text message complimenting him on his “tactful quote on Nikki.”
Others were less amused …
“Running back to your girl now that she got reelected?” another source emailed disapprovingly.
Here’s the thing, though … Folks never offered the quote that’s attributed to him.
In fact the quote attributed to him was actually offered by Haley’s top political advisor, Tim Pearson (for more on him, click HERE). Not only that, the NewsMax reporter didn’t even get the Pearson quote directly – it was lifted from this June 2014 piece written by Buzzfeed’s McKay Coppins.
And they say bloggers are lazy?
Anyway, were Folks contacted by the national media regarding Haley’s presidential aspirations, his quote would probably sound more like this …

Actually Sikh is defined as the perfect marriage of Islam and Hindu. If you google Nikki Haley relatives Amritsar, you will see the Sikh wedding photos. Michael in his Sikh wedding garb. I have heard that the only religious conversion that occurred was his conversion to Sikhism.
They are both members of a Methodist church. An interesting fact about mainstream Methodism is that there is no requirement that one give up their prior faith in order to belong. I believe (check me on this) similar rules apply in the Sikh faith.
So it is not truly a “conversion.” It’s an “either-or”, it’s an “also-and.” So they could both be Sikhs as well as Methodists.
You are correct about the relationship of Sikh to Hindu and Muslim. The guru who founded the Sikh faith, and all gurus who followed, taught that it was the unification and reconciliation of those two very different faiths. And due to it being monotheistic, it is more like Islam, though nowhere near as severe in its teachings.
Uh, I have to question your interpretation of Methodist dogma. I think at a minimum, you cannot be a Methodist unless you are a Christian, and you cannot be a Christian and a Sikh at the same time. They are mutually exclusive. Baptism would be a renunciation of your prior religion.
It isn’t my interpretation. It comes from observation of how some or the more “tolerant” UMC churches deal with persons of other faiths who wish to become members. Some do allow it. I posted about this in another thread a while back, but you may have missed it. As an example: The late Elizabeth Chapin Paterson was an ardent devotee of “Avatar” Meher Baba of India, who claimed to be an incarnation of the Messiah, the same as Jesus Christ. She founded the Meher Spiritual Center in Myrtle Beach, on land given her by her father, the Simeon B.Chapin, partner with Franklin Burroughs in Burroughs and Chapin Company. She was, for many decades and up until her death, a member of First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach. Following her lead, many other “Baba Lovers” (as they call themselves) joined the church as well. They were not all heir to great fortunes or holders of vast tracts of land fronting the ocean and consisting of near-pristine wetlands and maritime forests. But through the ministries of several different pastors over those decades, they remained members, and some are to this day. To my knowledge, this has not been challenged by the denominational hierarchy.

A Google search on the subject yields many other examples of this, which some may see as extreme ecuminism.
I agree with you that it does not comport with mainline Christian dogma, and there are certainly Methodist theologians who would say it is not in keeping with the faith of John Westley either. I’m not a Methodist, so my opinion does not matter. I’m merely pointing out that my statement on this was perhaps slightly in error as to the degree this sort of thing is prevalent in the churches, but in general it was not off the beam at all.

Just driving down 17 the other day from Charleston to I-95 is like a lesson in poor gets poorer and a third-world trip.
