By FITSNEWS || Incumbent “Republican” Nikki Haley survived numerous scandals, a shrinking workforce and sagging income levels to easily win reelection as governor of South Carolina.
The Associated Press declared the 42-year-old the winner of the race the moment polls in the Palmetto State closed – based on exit polling that showed her well ahead of Democratic nominee Vincent Sheheen.
That polling was accurate …
With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Haley won 57 percent of the vote compared to Sheheen’s 41 percent – a sixteen-point margin of victory that was nearly four times as big as her narrower-than-expected 2010 win over Sheheen.
Haley’s victory came despite South Carolina having the sixth-lowest labor participation rate in America – and the sixth-lowest income levels. It also comes despite Haley being busted artificially inflating the state’s taxpayer-funded jobs announcements.
Voters didn’t care about that … nor, apparently, did they care about a myriad of other scandals – five of which forced Haley to accept letters of resignation from her cabinet directors.
With her reelection out of the way, speculation now shifts to Haley’s future – namely her viability as a national candidate as well as her role in the 2016 “First in the South” presidential primary.
It’s been widely suggested Haley could never survive the vetting for a slot on the 2016 GOP ticket … but with such a compelling reelection win her name is likely to be back in the national conversation.
Whether it should be or not …

I wound up voting for him, too. I was going to vote for the Libertarian but knowing Sheheen was the strongest candidate who had a chance of beating her, I went with him once in the voting booth.

Holy cow- I just looked up the unofficial results… French tied the guy who dropped out (at 1%), which was only a half percentage point or so ahead of that crazy-ass Morgan Reeves. The grownups win again…

This, versus playing the game and working within the party system (which is where the winners are in the VAST majority of cases).

In my experience, there is nothing “open minded” about most Republicans. Which is why it’s hard to believe that you would “betray” your beloved party to support someone other than a Republican. However, if you did “cross over” and vote for Sellers, good for you.

I feel bad, already, I voted for her four years ago. I railed against Sheheen because I didn’t want him to be Governor because his family has a history of keeping a strangle hold on politics wherever they are in power. Right now, I really wish he had won four years ago.

That does not mean she is not a typical 21st century politician. There are scads just like her in the legislatures/county/city councils/US House/US Senate. It’s just that not all are like that. Some demonstrate that they love their state/county/city and care about the people. It just doesn’t seem like it’s most of them.
I think Bob Sheheen was a really decent, in all the meanings of the word, Speaker of the SC House. I liked him at the time. He looks really, really good compared to what came after him.
