EARLIEST RECORDED PALMETTO STATE SNOWFALL IS … GLOBAL WARMING’S FAULT?

By FITSNEWS || Just hours after the last Halloweeen trick-or-treaters succumbed to sugar exhaustion, the Midlands region of South Carolina got hit with its earliest recorded snowfall … prompting yet another debate over the veracity of global warming.

Or “climate change,” as the movement now prefers to be called …

Since the first recorded measurements were taken way back in 1880, there has never been snow in central South Carolina at such an early date.  The previous record for measurable accumulation in the Columbia, S.C. area was November 19, 1901.

Lexington County, S.C. got most of the white stuff – with some regions reporting accumulation of more than three inches.  Interstate 20 was briefly closed due to the storm, and thousands of residents remain without power.  Snow also fell in Greenville (the heart of South Carolina’s Upstate region) as well as several rural counties along the Interstate 26 corridor.

Prior to this system, the earliest recorded snowfall in Greenville occurred on November 11 (in 1968 and again in 1987).

In Asheville, N.C. – five inches fell in some areas.  Snow also blanketed the Great Smoky Mountains – with flurries dipping as far south as Atlanta.

And yeah, for those of you keeping score at home earlier this week South Carolina had three straight days of temperatures in the upper eighties.

Wow …

So … what gives?

Naturally global warming supporters blamed the early snowfall on … what else … “climate change.”  Because, as we’ve noted there is literally no weather phenomenon that doesn’t conform to their theory.

As we recently noted, it’s impossible to argue with supporters of global warming.

How come?

“Because every weather pattern they witness proves their point,” we wrote back in January. “Hot summer? Global warming. Mild summer? Global warming. Warm winter? Global warming. Frigid winter? Global warming. Whatever the thermostat is doing – and for however long it does it – supporters of global warming see nothing but the validation of their belief.”

“That’s cult-like behavior,” we added.

Does the data support this theory, though?

Not really. Global warming has been “paused” for the last eighteen years and one month, according to the latest data from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

“The ‘Great Pause’ is the longest continuous period without any warming in the global instrumental temperature record since the satellites first watched in 1979,” noted Christopher Monckton, a British independent party leader and leading opponent of climate change. “It has endured for a little over half the satellite temperature record. Yet the Pause coincides with a continuing, rapid increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration.”

Then there’s the record amount of Antarctic sea ice extent – which actually trapped a carbon-powered vessel dispatched to the South Pole to cover (wait for it) … global warming.

And yes, the eco-radical leader of that expedition – who had to be rescued by a carbon-powered helicopter – blamed his boat getting stuck in the ice on global warming.

Look … we’re not your typical “climate deniers” (or whatever term the left wishes to employ to demonize those who question global warming). We believe in the three “R’s” – reduce, reuse and recycle – and we also believe sustainability is a critical component of good stewardship.

But that’s not what the “global warming” debate is about … it’s about extending the power of government over the marketplace, and the global redistribution of wealth.

“Global Warming” means there is more energy available for weather to do crazy stuff…including snowing on 1 November.

Let’s do NOTHING – in fact I do not even think that littering should be against the law. Think about how much money could be saved if everyone was allowed to simply throw all of their trash out the window as they drive down the road.
And while we’re at it, who needs clean water either?? Aren’t the scientists that advocate for clean water the same frauds that are perpetuating the global warming hoax?? A little dirty water never hurt anyone – in fact it might toughen up the constitution of some of those pussy tree-huggers!

What would you suggest be done?

Government encouraging growth of green energy industries. Government encouraging increasing energy efficiency. Government funding discovery of alternative sources of energy, or increasing efficiency of current methods, through grants. Things like that, where government introduces a positive force in pushing green energy ahead. A good bit of this is already being done today.

Cap and trade I wouldn’t support because I don’t see it as a positive force, and it would negatively impact families.

Lexington’s snow was caused by a rare set of conditions that favored snow, and those conditions only lasted a couple of hours. Basing a single instance (not even a pattern) of multiple conditions coalescing on a small area the size of a few counties to disprove global warming is really, really stupid.

Keep in mind the right assailed the “polar vortex” as something invented to explain the severe cold weather we had not too long ago, which caused Al Roker to bust out a textbook from the fucking 1950s to prove it wasn’t just made up.

There is shit understanding of weather and climate by the general public and various pundits on both sides, but the simple fact remains that a vast majority of scientists DO generally accept the idea that climate change is real, and that humans are making it worse. That doesn’t sit well with the right because they are beholden to various fossil fuel industries and will fight global warming tooth and nail even if 100% of scientists agree.

But no, the vast majority of scientists are the ones that are being paid to release biased reports! It’s the minority of scientists who get funding from Big Oil and the coal industry that have it right, they are totally not bought and have no reason to lie!

Conservative fringers think freakish (i.e., fringe) weather equates to average weather (=climate) and its trends. Because their total personal experience with CO2 involves cold beverages (or, rarely, frosty CO2 fire extinguishers or dry ice) they cannot comprehend its being associated with any type of warming. It’s beyond con ken.

Reply
FastEddy23 November 1, 2014 at 7:43 pm

Mmmmm … And three or four years in a row of colder than normal winter? How about the record breaking size of the Antarctic Polar Ice Cap? Or maybe you have noticed that South Carolina has not had a significant hurricane since Sandy?

Is the climate changing? Or is it just going through another cycle of extremes?

One thing for sure! Never in history has increasing taxes changed the climate.

That’s fine. The best science blog is Wattsupwiththat.com. Take a look at the debate there. If you go to any blog site promoting CAGW, guess what you will find; a political debate!

Over 18 years with no warming. Of that, there is no debate. That’s just data. The best anyone can say is, IF atmospheric CO2 causes x degree of warming, then it will be x degrees warmer than it would OTHERWISE be, and we have no idea what that would be.

Clearly, all the predicted catastrophes are simply not coming true.

The great thing about reading scientists talking about science is that they don’t have an ax to grind or a perspective they’re trying to fit the facts to. It’s interesting reading, unlike the denialism B.S., which like I said earlier, sounds just like the B.S. people spouted when they said cigarettes don’t kill you.

Reply
Smirks November 3, 2014 at 8:55 am

Of course cigarettes don’t cause cancer. I know one guy who didn’t get cancer even though he smoked, so obviously the science isn’t settled! Also, the cigarette companies have paid for a panel of scientists who found it doesn’t cause cancer, so yeah.

We can totally trust the tobacco industry’s paid scientist panel, but we can’t trust government paid scientists who say it does cause cancer because they’re obviously biased because they don’t want to lose government funding.

The tobacco industry’s scientists have no such vested interest, because, uhh… well…

Antarctica’s ozone hole has multiple causes, not just from CFCs, dumbass.

Scientists have already seen improvements in the ozone layer’s depletion as a whole and expect it to recover over the next several decades, maybe sooner if the developing countries start cleaning up their shit too.

For fucks sake, they found a hole in the ozone layer above China years ago and even fucking China decided maybe it should stop using ozone-depleting shit. This is the same country that has rivers horribly contaminated with all kinds of toxins from factories that just dump whatever into them.

I swear, the Republican party is becoming the party of cave men.

Has been for decades. Tobacco industry, coal industry, radium paint, cane/corn sugar industries, etc.

The culprits of what is hurting others don’t want to face the financial costs (or even ruin) of fixing that harm because they are terrible human beings that put profit and greed above prosperity of the human race, so they trick people into believing it is actually harmless and they are victims of evil scientists with an axe to grind.

“Sugar consumption isn’t one of the main contributors to obesity!”

“This doctor I paid says that this woman’s illnesses aren’t related to radium!”

“This doctor I paid says that this patient may not actually have black lung, so we shouldn’t have to pay for his medical treatment. Oh, he died and the autopsy undeniably proved he did have black lung? Oh, well, we can’t comment on that.”

The people who come to believe this crap don’t want to face being wrong about believing it, so they take every tiny speck of evidence to the contrary as overwhelming evidence that the mountain of scientific evidence behind the general theory is wrong.

“It snowed, therefore global warming doesn’t reals.”

“My uncle smoked and didn’t get cancer, therefore tobacco-related illnesses don’t reals.”

It’s just another example of the human condition and how the worst of humanity can really bring out the worst in humanity.

People who know the SCIENCE of global warming know that the weather on any given day does not prove the science. Climate and weather are two very different things.

Reply

But they both have something to do with each other. NOAA’s AGW climate model is so bad, the GFS is continually incorrect, except within 4 hours of the event. I’m sorry.. too much science for you?

Who said Melvin is a Republican? Who said he is a Christian? Plenty of people doubt “Climate change” who are neither. All you need to debunk “Climate change” is an understanding of science.

Huckabee is not the leading candidate.

CNN – However, when pressed about whether he believed in a literal interpretation of the timeline laid out in Genesis — that God created the world in six days about 6,000 years ago — Huckabee said, “I don’t know.”

“Whether God did it in six days or whether he did it in six days that represented periods of time, he did it. And that’s what’s important.” — Huckabee.

1. Silent winter
2. Peak Oil
3. Population explosion.
4. Hundreds of thousands of people will die from Ebola.

That was an interesting take…

It sets the anthropogenic warming / climate change crowd’s heads on fire, but I like to remind myself occasionally that the vast majority of scientists once believed the Earth was the center of the universe (or wouldn’t say otherwise within earshot of the Roman Catholic church, anyway, which is a pretty neat analogy for the current pressure that teh “climate change orthodoxy” puts on the collective scientific community). Even within climate science there are clues that the party line is patched together: Failure to predict (or explain, even) the “pause” that is turning into something other than a pause, the debacle of the hyperbolic Antarctic ice level predictions, etc. Hell, “science” can’t decide whether if salt is bad for us or not. This is, of course, not the fault of scientists, but of the politicization of the funding process, academic publishing, and a general lack of understanding that what most mainstream folks call “science” is (by design) a moving target.

Reply
Mike at the Beach November 2, 2014 at 12:47 am

True enough, but not that simple. Down below, the Antarctic ice is at record levels. Even the climate folks admit they’re absolutely baffled that fact (not a single one of their dozens of models predicted, or can explain now even with the new data inputted). Ice Ages, long droughts, and huge climatic shifts waaaay pre-date the human age (and especially the Industrial Age).

Reply
9" November 2, 2014 at 5:43 pm

I disagree, but not strongly. In the grand scheme of things, humans are most likely a small blip on the screen.
I’m now leaning toward the ‘side’ that Indians were not the first Americans, but European.Fairly recent archaeological finds in Florida convinced me.

Reply
Mike at the Beach November 2, 2014 at 6:06 pm

It’s hard to argue that ice ages and major climate shifts don’t pre-date humans, but like you I don’t get too worked up about this stuff. The majority of public scientists (who must behave and conform to a certain level of orthodoxy if they want to get published and funded) can’t accurately predict hurricane seasons, sea level increases, explain the “pause” or Antartctic ice levels, so I’ll let them figure themselves out as the pause continues and warming (where it does occur) continues to increase much too slowly for the amount of CO2 emitted, even according to their own models.

Reply
Mike at the Beach November 2, 2014 at 8:31 pm

Again, agreed. Still bears no relevance to ice age history, which date back to the Huronian (2 billion-ish years ago), Cryogenian (700-million-ish years ago, Andean-Saharan (425 million-ish years ago), Karoo (250-350 million-ish years ago) and the current cycle, the Quaternary (2.5 million-ish years ago).

9" November 2, 2014 at 9:51 pm

IPCC — The period from 1983 to 2012, it says, was likely the warmest 30 year period of the last 1,400 years.

If this is true, then where are the famines, the drops in agricultural production, the flooded coastal cities. Where are the impacts that would justify government taxes and regulation of fossil fuels?

Reply

Scientists may lie if there is a pot research money availiable for climate change or if “Climate Change” is the only politically correct possition possible at their liberal university or agency.

Science is probably the best self-correcting system humans have devised. There is some rigor expected. There is nothing a scientist likes better than to disprove a theory.

It is conservatives who never want to change opinions. And, as you bring up the topic, conservatives who mostly fill the ranks of Holocaust deniers and continued racists.

The change in gravity (possibly detected as tiny shifts in satellite altitudes) probably simply evidenced the loss of ice.
I’ll bet 95+% of those who deride climate change and its technical evidence don’t even know how a simple airplane wing works.

“The change in gravity (possibly detected as tiny shifts in satellite altitudes) probably simply evidenced the loss of ice.”

No kidding, so what’s your point? The issue isn’t even whether the climate is or is not changing, that’s a given. The questions are; what are the long term effects and what are the causes?

Even further, what are people deriding? The climate change, the results(which are still unknown long term), or the fact that governments around the world are using it as an excuse to tax the living shit out of people & companies over it?

Glad you’re so confident on the whole matter. It must be nice to take such a black and white view on a complicated matter. It’s probably reassuring.
