THERE ARE PROBLEMS APLENTY WITHOUT INVENTING EPIDEMICS
By MANDE WILKES || Just a day after I published my “annual eye-roll” over breast-cancer “awareness” idiocy, I see that this very web site has taken to the same kind of spurious and lazy handwringing – in this instance about Ebola.
I can only imagine it’s because the topic has been inexplicably politicized.
You know … “Ebola is coming for us all … thanks, Obama!” That’s what we’re hearing from the right, at least. From the left, it’s the flip-side of that same partisan coin: Declarative headlines indicating the issue is a sort of political hoax.
The whole thing is at this point is little more than an extension of all those campaign commercials, albeit thematically it’s more “Gray’s Anatomy” than “Scandal.”
Alarmism and concern-trolling top my personal list of grievances, to be sure – especially when there’s absolutely zero reason to believe that Ebola will affect the nation, much less the neighborhood.
Seriously, a quick consultation with Google elicits a torrent of epidemiological reasons why we’re neither on the brink of an epidemic nor totally out of the clear. Basically? Scientists and biologists don’t know, yet, just how seriously – if at all – Ebola incidences will escalate in America.
Which is to say that both the worrywarts and the worry-nots are plainly wrong, and also way above their pay grades.
In the meantime, for those of you interested in blaming Obama for our national health woes, may I suggest starting with the federal government’s complicity with the food industry … which yields (and subsidizes!) – demonstrably toxic products like sodium benzoate, high fructose corn syrup, phthalates, and GMOs.

I agree. Like Sic, I am no hypercondria. But I know when there is need for concern. And in this matter, there is just that. These younger people think they have it all figured out when they don’t. I do my research. Never been a conformist. But I know bullshit when I see it. Chalk that up to life experience and the wisdom that comes from it.
All due respect to Mande .. and she is very articulate with her writing skills, however, she is still wet behind the ears with much still to learn about life, human behavior, pathological liars, etc. You can not be taught these things in a classroom setting. Sic knows what I am talking about. Anyone can laugh and attempt to belittle me all they wish, I am not phased by it in any respect. But nevertheless, Sic has developed a sixth sense. And that comes from experiences in his own life. And his attackers, who are of course entitled to their own opinions, are the types of critics he has come to figure out as being the typical hate filled mean spirited humans that walk among us. He knows how to handle them. And how? From his experience with critics and the like. I respect Sic. And I am not the only one who enjoys his site. Its a no brainer, that government employees, staff of politicians, lawyers, etc, all stop in from time to time. Not for entertainment. But for … … .
Mande is looking for reactions. And she is getting a few. But on the flip side, she is also getting a ‘response.’

When you wake up in the morning, do you find it difficult to pull yourself out of your dumpster?

Before you try, first have a snack, perhaps some old cottage cheese and half eaten dinner roll. That will help to give you the energy needed to pull yourself out.
Also, make sure your attempt is before 10am, before the heat sets in. Don’t bother wiping the remnants of your meal off your face with your sleeve, time is a precious commodity and no one expects you to do otherwise.

This is not happening in backwater Western Africa without infrastructure, so it’s not going to happen here with serious medical infrastructure. I don’t trust the feds any further than I can throw them, and I have a bad back. From an epidemiological stand point of what we already know about Ebola and other viruses in that family the infection rate is not going to be high at all even if it gets in to the wild. If this was the 1918 influenza strain, small pox, bubonic plague, or some unknown virus we had no information I’d be worried. Filoviridae family of viruses don’t spread well, and are not very successful as virus go. The Soviets tried and failed to weaponize Filoviridae viruses very unsuccessfully and natural spread is much less efficient than weponized distribution . If anything this is a distraction from something much more important.

On another note, the CDC states that they are scrambling to track down everyone, all 200 passengers, who were on that plane.
