RESTAURANT THAT BOOTED DEMOCRATIC CUSTOMERS IS OWNED BY HALEY DONOR
By FITSNews || It turns out there was a good … well, not “good,” more like predictable reason why an eyebrow-less “Republican” operative was able to have four patrons removed under threat of arrest from a Moe’s Southwest Grill in Charleston, S.C. prior to a visit from S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
The restaurant is owned by one of her campaign contributors …
The Moe’s restaurant where the incident went down is owned by Cary L. Chastain – who was appointed by Haley to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) board after he and his wife donated $10,500 to the governor’s political campaign.
Nice …
As we’ve said from the beginning of our coverage of “Burrito-gate,” Chastain as a private businessman reserves the right to refuse service to anyone he pleases – for whatever reason he pleases. But he’s got to deal with the marketplace’s reaction to those decisions.
Speaking of, we’re still waiting for the company’s Atlanta-based corporate headquarters to respond after promising to “investigate” the incident.

Cock gobbler put him on the SCDNR board…lol…perfect. This story gets more delicious every minute. How appropriate eh ChASSstain?
Crony powers activate! Form of: douche nozzles!
“Chastain as a private businessman reserves the right to refuse service to anyone he pleases – for whatever reason he pleases.” That may sound proper in some libertarian Nirvana, but Mr. Chastain does not have such rights legally. Restaurants are considered places of “public accommodation” and cannot, by law, refuse service due to race, color, religion, national origin or by any arbitrary standard. This situation sounds like an arbitrary standard to me. Look it up — the legal precedents and case histories abound.
… cannot, by law, refuse service due to race, color, religion, national origin or by any arbitrary standard.
b-b-b-b-ut they were DEMOCRATS!!!
Chastain should have established a “First Amendment Zone” somewhere outside the rear of the restaurant and seated them there.
To deny, directly or indirectly, any person the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation …. political affiliations …. Moe’s has possibly stepped into dangerous territory.
Actually “Moes” is safe, this is a franchise and as such has rules they must follow to maintain their license.
Rules???? …. HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAA! …. And we don’t need courts to enforce those “rules.” …. HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!
Thanks for the laugh.
Moes will use in their defense, “…these were the actions of an independent franchisee, not the Moes corporation…your honor, policy 63 (or whatever) clearly says that franchisees may not use a Moes for partisan political events…” The judge will then dismiss the corporation from the suit leaving the franchisee holding the bag.
Idiot.
Your frivolous assertion is noted.
Which is as it should be. If the local franchisee did this and its illegal, he should have to pay. Not the franchise. God I hope its illegal. This would be fun to watch.
Since he didn’t deny service to anyone, I’m doubting what he did was “illegal”. Stupid from a business standpoint but probably not illegal.
Kicking someone out is denying service. STUPID.
The people in question had already been served, at least from what I’ve read.
Its an actionable tort in Federal court subjected to hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage awards.
Even “political affiliations” ….
YES, this argument did not go over well in Columbia in I believe it was 1963-64.
During the Wall Green’s Lunch Counter Sit-Ins and racial demonstrations on Main Street. This owner bum needs to be sued like hell. Moe’s should either take away his franchise, or it should be added to the lawsuit too!!!
what do these folks get paid as DNR Board Members?
Good question.

Time to Google. We need to know.
I see T-Rav is advertising here again (above) — but with his dyed hair and fake beard Halloween trick-or-treat suit……
I’m still upset about how this went down. After my friends left, I kept confronting the campaigner that started all of this due to seeing my tattered SC Democratic Party bag, of which I use to carry my CofC school books and supplies in, and that I didn’t even think about it being seen. The campaigner glared and continuously laughed at me in front of everyone. The manager lied when asked to see the Owner, saying he wasn’t there, and then said he wouldn’t be available when asked to get him on the phone. On my way out, when I first started to let ALL of the media know what was going on, which they were all shocked, it was confirmed that the “short guy in the blue Moe’s shirt” who wouldn’t even look at me when I tried to speak to him, was indeed the owner, Mr. Chastain. We were all humiliated! Aside from that, you should have seen the ridiculous religious pamphlets they had going around. As an American and a former U.S. Navy Sailor, and also a now graduating Social Studies and Language Arts Teacher, I can attest that both content areas were horribly put together. Let me know if you want a copy!
I can attest that both content areas were horribly put together.
Maybe that SC Political Digest guy/gal wrote them?
Seriously, scan it and see if FITS will publish it. TBG has no doubt it is a hoot.
It was a hoot, it was about some Saul Alinsky-inspired conspiracy to destroy America.
Waaaaaahhhhhh!! No high chairs in Moe”s?
Christians should flood this Moe’s @ C of C and show their support for a business that was apparently targeted by anti religious, democrat operatives because of the owners faith.
Help this owner fight the evil being perpetrated on him by these degenerates and those calling for a boycott.
Corey wasn’t saying that the pamphlets were ridiculous because they were religious, hey were ridiculous because they were completely batshit nutty. One of our best friends is a Pastor. This incident had nothing to do with religion or anything else, besides some douchey Haley staffer playing eenie meenie minie moe with restaurant customers. There were others told to leave as well.
Yes he did. *ridiculous religious pamphlets* is very clear.Apparently he is also lying about not being able to finish his meal.On another thread a poster that said they worked that day stated that the group had been done eating for 20 minutes. These businesses have video tape you know?
Video tape? Tape went out eons ago. Try mp3 or cd. How old are you? 60?
They used that there newfangled “vee ache ess” thingamajigger, I tell you what!
…”vee ache ess” thingamajigger…
Beta’s bettah.
He stated clearly that he wants a free meal. Probably meaning “meals on wheels”, so odds are he’s in that demographic.
Don’t like old people huh? Soylent Green is the answer.
I sincerely hope they release a video. It will show three friends eating, talking, and being kicked out by a nervous GM and a smirking tool.
My guess and I am not an attorney…is that you and your friend have lied about Moes and will be sued. Good luck.Maybe Fits will pay your attorney fees? Why not just apologize? Might help. :-)
Well, your guess is wrong, and thankfully, bystanders gave me their numbers and told me they would be happy to answer questions to media or anyone else. We have nothing to apologize for, except venturing into a Moe’s, where people, who are intolerant of even the potential of a differing opinion, chose to congregate, awaiting the arrival of a governor who is my governor, as a multi-generational resident of South Carolina. If anyone sues me for sitting in a restaurant where I have just purchased a meal, I am sure there are a plethora of local attorneys who would be more than happy, if not excited, to defend us and file a counter-suit. I am not intimidated by you, nor am I intimidated by idiot political staffers operating on behalf of gubernatorial candidates, who are so unwilling or unable to answer difficult and legitimate questions, that they remove people who look like they might disagree with them before they set foot in a place, “Guest.”
Best wishes. In my opinion you all went after this man and his business because of his religious faith.
The courts and public opinion will apparently have too sort this out. Peace.
None of us have a problem with anybody practicing their religion. Religion never entered this situation in any way. I certainly hope there is no legal action of any kind. I definitely have no interest in pursuing that, nor do, as far as I know, any of my friends who were there that day. I would very much like, however, an apology from the owner and/or GM, and an explanation. That’s all. I don’t think it’s Moe’s fault. I believe that the GM was pressured by someone who said they worked for our Governor, throwing around words like security to make them feel more compelled to act in a way that they knew to be wrong.
You realize that ‘guest’ is purposely changing the subject/discussion point because Haley’s staff actions are pretty much indefensible, right? I would just ignore “guest”…who is successfully trolling you and distracting from the real issue.
Fair enough.
You’re insane.
No, she’s Sandi, a paid goon of Haley’s that comments here.
The courts and public opinion will apparently have too sort this out.
Et two?
“Your opinion”? Dumbfucks like you aren’t entitled to opinions.
Oh, fucking cry into a pile of dogshit. This was a blatant act of political intimidation and this guy is gonna get his ass sued.
Moe’s will have to answer for this, and I think they need to yank his franchise to make an example of him.
I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE MOE’S AGAIN.
Good, that’s one less person in line.
“bystanders gave me their numbers and told me they would be happy to answer questions to media…”
Bull!! Will Folks also had evidence of his Haley affair on his computer and we never heard about it again. It was also just before an election.
Except for the fact that there is apparently a video, which I encourage Moe’s to release publicly. I in no way blame Moe’s, except in their submitting to what must have been intense pressure from a powerful politician’s staffer, who falsely represented us as some kind of “security threat” to his boss. Once again, no intention to sue anyone, but would like the GM to apologize and identify the source of this ridiculous situation, so the blame can be shifted to the party actually responsible for this ridiculous fiasco.
You know how you could get that video? Through discovery when you sue Moe’s.
No, you’re not an attorney, You’re another ignorant shithead who hasn’t the slightest fucking clue what you’re farting out your mouth about.
Christians should flood this Moe’s…
Free fishbowl margarita’s and TBG will help make it rain!
pfft! Wait till subpoenas uncover who you are.
I wish I had a nickel for every douchebag that came on and threatened some anonymous person with a lawsuit uncovering their identity.
You’re not serious, are you? If you are……..All I can say is WOW!
LOL. “Apparently” targeted.
Bingo! Now it makes sense. You and your filthy Occupy Wall Street buddies apparently targeted this owner and business because of his Christian faith and the *religious pamphlets*.That was your purpose?
Now Fits is advocating a boycott of Moe’s.
I smell Chik fil A all over again.
So you’re one of Haley’s cronies.
OMG! You are indicative of one the the biggest problems in the world – people taking themselves far to seriously. Too many Christians take offense at every turn. The paranoia is palpable.
Dude, nobody even knew who the owner was at the time. The pamphlets were being distributed by some old guy with no connection to the owner or to Moe’s. He was just there because he thought it was likely to be a sympathetic crowd. They were not provided by the owner, the franchise, or Moe’s corporate. Nor are they there at any other time than when this one guy was there handing them out. I got one too, and I was outside across the street.
And Corey clearly said that the pamphlets were poorly made, and that was why they were ridiculous. Not that they were ridiculous because they were religious. Corey also has zero history with Occupy.
Social Studies and Language Arts? Ha!
That tells me a lot.
Bible Thumper? Ha!
That tells me all I need to know about you!
Good point.
What is language arts?
Something tells me this isn’t the first time you’ve been humiliated Nancy. Have you ever heard of a private business? Have you ever been kicked out of a bar because you didn’t want to hear the band the owner hired and made an ass of yourself? I guess you think you are free to go to Wendy’s and holler that you love McDonald’s? Same principal, the owner obviously wanted them there as his guest and he didn’t appreciate 4 “activists”(your words) there to interrupt his plans. The sidewalk is free territory to protest to your hearts content, and you can never eat there again, but until you start paying the bills at his place you have no say how he runs it.
Nobody sitting at the table disturbed anyone. Nobody went into Moe’s and hollered anything. It was three of us, not four, and no one was there to interrupt anyone’s plans. All we did was eat food, which we purchased. As far as eating at Moe’s again, later that day, a different manager gave us free burritos and asked that we come back. We have received emails from Moe’s corporate offering us gift cards, so I’m not sure where you’re getting this from. Also, who is Nancy?
Sounds like harassment by the campaigner, inter alia. You need to contact an expert civil rights attorney from outside the area.
San Francisco is great. How are you?
You’re a professional or serial protester and lied about Moes.
http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140328/PC16/140329349
So now, in America, it’s okay to sell people food, then remove them because they’ve been involved in protests before? I’m sorry, I thought protesting was part of exercising your rights as a citizen of this country. Guess I must have skipped the day in school where they taught us about how expressing your opinions means you can’t patronize restaurants . . . ever.
It was a setup. It at least puts their actions in context. This leads one to question their credibility.
Our burrito eating actions? The only actions taken here were their actions to remove us.
You protest at the Basketball game and coincidentally are at the Cristie/Haley meeting.
Did you know of the meeting before hand?
I was not at any basketball game, religious rabbit, and there was no guestlist at the Moe’s, nor was there any waiver when we purchased our food that we had to sign, promising that we had no prior political opinion. What country is this?
You signed it, but that was a lie. You did have an opinion.
You deceived fits and its viewers that you just happened by Moe’s. That is also a lie. Corey just “happened to have a Democratic Party bag as a book bag” but he new the owner was a “doner”.
Admit it. You were delighted to create a scene.
Signed what? Even if we were all executives of the Atheist-Communist party, saw in the paper that our governor was coming to Moe’s, and went to watch, or even (G-d forbid) ask a question, why does that give anyone the right to remove us and not others, from a restaurant we paid to be at, before any politician showed up, having done nothing disruptive?
Signed what? What they hell are you even talking about?
Last time I checked, freedom of association wasn’t just a law, it was a constitutionally protected right. Who gives a shit if one of them was a Democrat? Or if any of them have ever been involved in activism?
The question is, where they causing a disturbance? No. Even the people who kicked them out say no. They suspected them of being there to cause a disturbance, but did nothing to verify that. They were profiled due to their appearance and the fact that one had a Dem party bag, which is about four years old.
You say they’re lying, but the shift manager they went back to talk to after the event (I was there for this as a witness) corroborated their account willingly and completely, and gave all of us burritos (including me, even though I wasn’t even there for the event). That doesn’t sound like something that would be done in the face of a story with a lot of holes in it. That sounds like something that is done when a company realizes they made a PR fuckup and is trying to cover their ass and smooth things over.
And you say that Corey, who had the bag, knew the owner was a donor. That is false, we looked it up afterwards while we were regrouping down the street and trying to collect information.
When you demand accuracy, you should make the effort to be accurate.
CharlestonSubterrain just above said he signed a waiver unless he edited his post.(he has changed his post)
Freedom of assembly is also the right of those organizing the assembly. If a known opposition protester is there, then they have a right to remove him. It is done all the time legally. Corey Craig was thrown out of the basketball game legally. They have a right to assemble for a purpose and for it not to be disrupted.
The protesters were across the street legally assembling.
Dude, he did not sign anything. You misread that. I saw it immediately after he posted it. If he edited anything, it wasn’t that. I also know he didn’t sign anything because there was nothing to sign at the event. I was there when he went back to speak to the manager. You’re just making stuff up now.
He’s always just making stuff up.
You’re a mental case, indeed.
You real name listed as a defendant. Gonna be nice :D
If you walked into a restaurant and and started eating, then you were kicked out because you were wearing a crucifix necklace, and the owners claimed you were a threat of potential disruption, (let’s say the owner donates to Planned Parenthood and suspected you were a far right agitator) would you say, “okay, my bad!” Or would you say, “wft, I’m being kicked out because of a symbol on my person?! I’m just eating the meal I paid for!”
Such hypocrisy! If this had happened to you you’d be flipping a shit to anyone who would listen.
If the person had been thrown out of a basketball game for protesting before, you might question whether he is telling the truth or trying to cause trouble.
Yeah, except nobody claims that they knew at the time that any one of the people that were ejected had a history of activism. They were ejected, three of them, because one of them had a bag with a DNC logo. It so happens that that person was also ejected from a basketball game, but that is immaterial since they didn’t know it when they ejected him and his party.
If you say so. NOT!
Let’s see your information reported by fits or legitimate media.
Everyone is free to “question” anything and everything. What the fuck difference does that make? We are talking about an ACTION, not a question in someone’s mind, fuckwit.
Howsabout if you were wearing a Confederate flag belt and Jim Clyburn and Nancy Pelosi were getting ready to raise some funds?
You suck at this. Nobody really believes that was a set-up. Holy shit! If you ARE being paid for posting this crap, you are stealing your boss(es) blind! There is no way in hell that someone having been in a protest in the past warrants their being kicked out of restaurant. MAJOR lawsuits can result from that bullshit action, and that’s why Moe’s is being so solicitous to him.
There is nothing wrong with being a protester. There were people legally protesting across the street from Moe’s. Craig was an illegal protester. He was one of only two protesters removed from a basketball game. Some protest. Other push the limits no matter how permissive they may be, hoping to get arrested.
I haven’t found any evidence that outside of fits that “Moe’s is being so solicitous to him.” A refund and apology from Moe’s? Who cares?
I have found no mention of this incident other than in fits and Moe’s Facebook comment by Craig.
Right. There is nothing wrong with being a protester. But he was not protesting when he was ejected. He was eating a meal. The basketball game is entirely irrelevant, and will remain so no matter how many times you bring it up.
I haven’t found any evidence outside of your comments that CC and his friends intended to “push the limits”, or that they were “hoping to get arrested.” Your conjectures and allegations about that are useless and pointless.
Facts, on the other hand, are facts. And the only ones that matter at all pertain to exactly what went down IN MOE’S at the time of the ejection and denial of refund. You know that, yourself, but want to keep bringing up totally irrelevant bullshit.
Religious pamphlets? GASP!!! O The HORROR!!!! Call the PC cops…I’m having trouble untying my bib! Quick!
Did you report this elsewhere, in addition to FITS? This might be something that the Repubs might try to distance themselves from, but can’t, this being more like the old fashioned flypaper that was near impossible to remove.
Fuck all Moe’s!
Chipoltle is better anyway.
Cary Chastain is the sole reason why I’ll never eat Moe’s again, and I’m telling everyone.
Yep, I’m through with Moe’s. Not kidding. Chipotle from now on. It’s couple miles further away, but that’s no big deal.

Your Pie just plain sucks.
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources Board will meet on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at 1000 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC
My guess is this little self important blogger and his operatives were there to cause some static and the man with no eyebrows nipped it in the bud. There’s more to this story.
Yes, Haley and Christie are cowards. They are afraid they will be asked a serious question about their criminal history. They prefer to stack the deck with pre-set questions and prepared speeches.
Another problem in this world – people “guessing” and spreading unsubstantiated rumors and lies.
So you’re just going to take the word of an “activist” that runs a liberaltard blog, his burrito eating minions and Fits who will publish just about any story that’s put in front of him? Simpleminded much?
You mean Moe to this story? Or non-story?
See Post by me above. Corey is a known protester.
I won’t be eating there for a while. I guarantee you that at least one person in the kitchen staff will be shitting in the refried beans for some time to come.
I will NEVER patronize another Moes EVER!!!!!!!
Tragic.
Not really, I would threaten the same, but having eaten there the threat would have no substance.
Welcome to Moes!!! The Cook Out (shitter food than McDonalds) of Mexican restaurants.
I can see it now. Three chairs in a row tied together with a plaque reading, “Gov Christie sat here.”
And the legs of the chairs are all slightly bent.
A Republican fest always has to have a Democrat bouncer. Most or all of the ” public ” locations they chose will not be good for them, remember Chapin ? I still remember Nazi’s !
This Incident Is Going To End Up Going Viral. Haley’s Cronies Are Here Posting.
If you refuse service, you are supposed to do it before you take the money.
The College Of Charleston Student Body Will Be Calling For A Boycott of This Moe’s Location.
Because Mr.Chastain is apparently a Christian conservative that is very generous with his money for MANY causes in Charleston?
What a shame this man, his family and his business interests are being threatened apparently because Fits has an axe to grind with Haley. Disgraceful.
I don’t speak for Mr.Chastain however I do wish to say you are not alone sir. God is good-and the socialists threatening you from CofC are the same losers that destroyed Elizabeth Colbert Busch’s campaign. You will prevail.
Generous? Its a fooking tax write off! The guys is likely a tax cheat, at that.
This location will be killed by Chipotle. Just tell the C of C student body to go to Chipotle. Wait, no need; they will without even being told. Great. Of course if the word goes out that Moe’s is run by jackbooted thugs, I guess its decline will happen even a little faster.
“jackbooted thugs” That’s called ambiance.
Yeah, I love a little constitutional abuse with my queso! It adds some spice.
That’s actually funny. Rare for you.
The owner is going to be taught a very expensive lesson, I predict.
Grand…it’s much cooler than, say, studying for organic chemistry…long live the college boycott! Go to Juanita ‘ s instead…not so pedestrian…or soccer momish as Moe’ s
You are probably right. Then, three days later, the “boycott” will end ignominiously when the mushy-headed college kids forget what all the manufactured fuss was about, but get hungry for a JC with steak and pinto beans.
So the owner who donated over 10 grand to Haley’s campaign just so happened to be there …. to meet Christy.
So the owner of a law firm donated 10 grand to the SCDP and 3 grand to one of her husband’s opponents…to elect the opponent?

Does that make it okay for the IRS to target and discriminate against political minorities? You Betcha!
Who does Haley think she is having people removed from a business, while only having lunch…Obama?
Bet she went off to play golf after her DSS killed those children too.
Obama+Ohaley+Ochristie=Ocrapx3
Lost in all this is the fact that of all the GOP Governor”s that Haley could have brought in, she picked Chris Christie. You know the RINO’S RINO that helped re-elect Obama and closes bridges for political payback. Oh, and he also has had multiple credit downgrade on his watch.
She picks campaign allies about as well as she picks cabinet heads.
No lie here. The real truth about her has all caught up. Christy is a sack poopoo. Haley is a total fool for associating with such scum. But then, we are seeing more and more just how she is one of such. I can’t stand her anymore. Everything in this state is f–ked up. And people are sick of it. Harrell is the beginning of the end for many of these corrupt rogues in office. Its been a week now since his indictments. Why has Harrell not been arrested and booked???? 2 to 3 business days at best, it should have already taken place. Who is intentionally dragging their feet?
Good rant.
I agree BUT
She will be EASILY reelected. This is a one party state and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
stfu, scooter.
Welcome to Moe’s. …where their veggies or grown using human feces in mexico..wait I meant Haleys garden.
I wonder how this plays out when the ads start running – dead children, stolen personal information, dead small towns across the state, and college kids getting kicked out of Moe’s. This is so ripe for Vinny on so many levels.
It seems to me, everything is stacking up against Haley. And its all backed up with facts, evidence, and witnesses.
Moe’s schmoes!
I want to hear more about the Statehouse investigation!
You’ll have to tap the phones yourself.
What about “Really stupid Thomas Ravenel article removal-gate?” I was out of town and too busy to check in for a day or two…anyone come up with a solid theory there yet?
Mike you believe this. (See Post by me above) You have defended Will before but this really stinks.
Are you asking me if I believe this piece? I have no idea- I was just asking about the silly TR piece that got yanked. This story sounds like a no-biggie to me. Some of the actors here are “true believers” and emotionally-driven activist types; one always has to be careful taking their account of something at face value. Regardless of what happened, that Moe’s will stay packed (I ate there the other day and had to wait for a freaking table at 11:15). As for “defending” Will…I don’t think he needs any defense from me. It’s big-boy rules out here on the interwebs, and he gets that. I’ve defended (in principle) his right to say some of the silly, misguided things he says on here, if that’s what you mean. I’ve also skewered his ass (like, for instance, attendant to his bromance with Narcissus of Charleston).
Will should of checked his source and found out he had been involved in protest against McConnell. That changes the story.
OK, I gotcha now. Sure, it’s pretty obvious that this is probably not the big deal that the whiny bitch college kids are making it. When trying to deduce whose version of events is closer to the truth (no one’s is ever 100% accurate), always look at three things- mindset(why would they say and or believe what they say), history (have they said similar things in the past in similar contexts), and specific motivation (what’s in it for them in the current conditions). The whining Nancies in this deal would seem to be, well, whining Nancies. Contrary to what most think, there is no Constitutional protection for sitting in a privately-held business and running your suck. Management tells you to leave (as long as they don’t tread into a few specific areas well-defined by the courts) and you just gots to leave.
And Will Folks? If I could find out they protest before and Will didn’t reveal it.
Maybe he knew and left it out, or maybe he didn’t care enough to check. Either way I’m OK. Keep in mind that Will is not a journalist- doesn’t claim to be, doesn’t want to be. He’s a politico, and he provides for his family with web hits and advertising (both of those pursuits are aided by silly stories like this). The fact that he spins things should come as no surprise to anyone- it’s his job. The info will wash out on these boards- just look at the beating FITS takes every time it trots out the latest TR blow job.
I don’t know any more about T-RavGate. I did see one TV ad. Not the raising the house. Was not impressed.
Who cares if they have protested before? By no account–not theirs, not witnesses, not management, not employees, not campaign staff–were they protesting when they were kicked out.
Also, the CofC protests were almost entirely apolitical (some partisans got through, but we tried to minimize them). The issue was the BoT spending $100,000 on an independent search consultancy firm, then giving the job to a candidate that the search firm reviewed, vetted, and declined to recommend, against the will of the whole campus community, and under a cloud of cronyism and threats from members of the legislator towards Trustees and their private businesses. There were many conservatives and Republicans very active in those protests, including one in a high leadership position. It only gained the support it did because it was apolitical and because the grievances were felt by all ideologies. The Lowcountry Young Republicans even almost officially endorsed the protests. Shockingly, some Republicans remember that being anti-corruption used to be a primary conservative principle.
The only account you have is the ones thrown out.
Haven’t you been listening? I went with them to speak to the manager after the event. I have the manager’s account first hand. It corroborates everything accurately. I also spoke to a GOP friend who witnessed the event from the inside, who further corroborated the events, and offered to be a witness if needed at any point. And if campaign staff had anything that flew in the face of those three independent accounts, they would have said so to try and nip this story now.
Everything you say is hearsay. When the legitimate media publishes interviews with them, then I will believe it.
Who cares what you think. You are full of it – and yourself. Your days are numbered, pal.
You really trust the local news that much? As someone who was quoted extensively over the last year, I have almost never been quoted accurately. I’d take three independently corroborated first hand accounts over a P&C article any day.
If you have that much faith in the local media, no wonder you’re so ill-informed.
They will publish corrections. Your right but it is more reliable than posted comments.
We have been encouraged to contact specific members of national media, and chosen not to take it to that level, yet. Again, all we want is an apology, and for the blame to be assigned to the appropriate parties.
With Christy being a party to the matter, every reporter in the nation would talk to you. Just be on guard and watchful. His people and Haley’s will spy on you in ways like the NSA does. They will not physically harm you. But they will want to know what you are up to and who you are associating with.
“Everything you say is hearsay.”
Pot, meet kettle. As opposed to comments from anonymous people on political websites that weren’t even there!
You don’t have to believe me. Go to Corey’s Facebook post and the Post and Carrier that I linked above.
Anytime you speak with these people, secretly use an mp3 recorder.
If and when you guys file a federal civil suit, besure to have subpoena’s served on Fitnews for all log on and poster comment information – like isp numbers tagged with the post and comments. You will certainly uncover entities who work for the Haley administration.
Moe’s on Kind Street is a mere 2 to 3 minute walk ( if that) from the college dorms and classrooms. It is a popular spot for students to eat at.
Why does it matter that a CoC student protested the state hiring an unqualified person to run the college. Your arguments make no sense. The fact that you have protested something in your life that is unrelated to an event occurring where you are means you will possibly protest that event. Jesus, are politicians that cowardly now.
My only regret is the people of SC are such fools they will vote Republican even when the person is patently an unqualified, coward who has damaged the state in the past for her own political gain.
It leads one to question the truthfulness of their story. They may have been there trying to cause trouble or hoping to create a controversy.
“”It leads one to question the truthfulness of their story.” No it doesn’t. Unless you are partisan hack.
You clearly are a partisan. Does that mean I should suspect you are working for Hailey and lying here to cover up her actions. For all the logic you have put out here I am beginning to suspect that is the case.
Under your theory anyone who had ever protested anything should be refused access to any political event.
There might be “no Constitutional protection for sitting in a privately-held business,” but there is plenty of legal protection against refusing service to anyone without reasonable expectation that they will break the law. None of us have a history of breaking the law, and refusal of service becomes irrelevant once service is provided, unless a party’s actions are disruptive. There is no legal protection for a business throwing us out, but that is immaterial. None of us have any intention of taking legal action against Moe’s, because we understand the pressure and power ascribed to a Governor and her employees. It is Haley’s staff that acted inappropriately. a far as Moe’s staying busy, I’m sure they will stay busy, unless CofC students take offense to their student organizers being discriminated against, or unless people like Chipotle better (far more likely). All we want from them is an apology and an explanation, and we expect both, otherwise, it is likely that blame will continue to be assigned to Moe’s, which I personally consider to be unfortunate, as it was Haley staffers ultimately responsible for this unnecessary fiasco. What is the state of a political carer when a candidate cannot appear at a restaurant without removing people who are perceived as political detractors? How can a Governor, who purports to be engaged in sound policy, be so afraid of college students?
If you can prove what you have posted (and I am not saying you can’t), then you own these people.
I would also be taking screen shots of everything posted on fitsnews that pertains to the matter.
Although no proof can be offered to counter the truth, I have no desire to own anyone. We would simply appreciate an apology and an explanation of what happened, so that blame can be publicly ascribed to the part(ies) responsible.
Mike At The Beach is your typical sociopath. Pay him, and his gay friend Bible Thumper, no mind.
You say sociopath, I say real world. Either way, this story dies in a few hours, the Moe’s stays hella busy, and you move on to troll another day.
It is *extremely* unlikely (read, zero percent chance) that the Governor is afraid of you. It’s just political field ops 101- handlers are paid to control the optics at events, even little ones at Moe’s. No handler or political operative worth his or her salt would let some group of potentially disruptive clowns glom onto a choreographed event. Don’t over think it. As for your legal analysis, you sound like a CSOL grad. Suffice to say that there is absolutely no nexus whatsoever between some prediction that you will break the law and a business owner’s right to refuse you service, require that you leave, or both. Your made up statutory language / case law / whatever that was is simply not accurate, but it’s too late (and I care too little) to spool up my Westlaw account to spit cases at you at 2:00 AM. Tempest in a teapot. Namaste.
I, once again, have no interest in any legal action. Thank you for thinking I am a CSOL graduate, as I have friends who have graduated from there, and friends who teach there. If people are not a threat, then why would her staffer risk such a hullabaloo, just to remove people? If she was half the Governor Christie was, she would have spirited exchanges with detractors, instead of pretending that they don’t exist.
Also, I have attended a variety of political events, and Haley, if, as you say, she has people removed from businesses she plans to attend, she is the only politician I know that does so.
While you are mostly right, these people were removed by state government employees, with the intent to suppress free speech. They were not removed by employees of the business. I think that may change the equation.
You could, of course, be right, but I don’t think so. Here’s why- first, this thing is silly emotional- college aged activist types, hyped up political operatives, lots of underlying psychology there. That makes for inaccurate stories and perceptions all around. Second, whatever “removal” took place was done under the auspices of the store’s management / ownership, which (at best) would make the state folks “agents” of the owner for the purposes of torts, liability, etc. (and that’s taking the activists’ perceptions as wholly accurate- in the light most favorable to their position). At any rate, there’s just not much here. I have no dog in the fight, and hate that I even jumped into the fray. I got sucked in commenting on something else entirely! My bad, that. We’ll have to see how things shake out, but I would be willing to bet that it fades quietly from what little exposure it’s getting now and goes away.
Corey Craig has been thrown out of a Coffee basketball game for a sign protesting McConnell ‘ s presidency. This is the same guy thrown out of Moe’s. You’ll are SUCKERS!
http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140328/PC16/140329349
Adrian wasn’t there, so you lost the bet. I’d bet that for all your critique, you’ve got no college degree hanging from your wall. Just about anyone worth their salt has been tossed out of better places than Moe’s for better reasons. Also, when did protesting anything become a crime in the United States of America?
If the protest violates others right to peacefully to assemble for a specific purpose then it violates the 1st Ammendment.
Do you really believe three people would have prevented two governors and a large crowd of GOP loyalists from maintaining their event just fine? Even the basketball protest that you can actually prove didn’t disrupt the game. They left when asked, and the game went ahead throughout the whole thing.
I have seen one load talker disrupt a political meeting by constantly asking questions and preventing others from asking unless they were rudely load themselves. This happened at the Big Orange in Greenville. I saw opposition material through his car window afterwards.
I don’t expect you to believe me, but you can see how it might happen.
So what happened at the basketball game you hold up as a smoking gun? They stood quietly with a sign and left when asked. You have no evidence that they ever disrupted anything, even when protesting. Even the CofC protests were respectful. They ended up having pizza (that they provided out of pocket) with the President, his Chief of Staff, and the Head of Campus Security after their sit-in, after inviting the whole staff of Randolph Hall.
You have nothing to go on. Even your evidence isn’t evidence of a history of disruption. If they HAD caused a disturbance, they would have been quickly ejected with no fuss. But they didn’t. They were quietly eating more than a half hour before any politicians showed up.
I base everything I know about the Basketball game on the newspaper report. I question the accuracy of papers, but blog post even more. I saw the picture at the game and it seemed tame I admit. People went for a game though not expecting political activities. If they had, they might have come with banners supporting McConnell.
There is raw video of the entire thing happening. From the moment the banner was unrolled, to the image of the two of them walking out of the area. If you did adequate research, you’d have seen it. It shows them standing silently for a few minutes (in an article they note that they moved down to the other end of the row because they noticed that President Benson was sitting in front of them and they didn’t want to force him into the shot. More evidence of being respectful), then being approached by a member of campus security. After a moment of Corey asking on what grounds they were being asked to leave, they roll up the banner and leave quietly, without the need to be escorted out by security.
Not only was there no disruption, they took active steps to avoid unintentional disruption by moving away from the CofC President.
So again, you have zero evidence that they have a history of being disruptive, even when they are protesting.
I saw a video, too. Moe’s and Haley’s staff are out of order.
No protest occurred, therefore nobody’s rights to peace were violated except for ours.
Moe’s is right next to the college campus. It was lunch time. Haley and Christy sure didn’t announce to the world that they would be there. But it was secretly planned so the owner of that Moe’s location could be there to meet Christy. Reporters would follow them around regardless. Tail them in their cars, etc.
Your rights were violated.
You are way off base on the Constitution thing. Private citizens cannot violate the Constitution. The Constitution only proscribes government action, not action by private citizens. You do not know what you are talking about here. Which I must say is typical for right wingers.
The only possible violation of the Constitution in this event was by Haley’s staff. Because the people removing the persons from the restaurant were government employees, that was government action. Further the action was taken with the intent to suppress their right to free speech. (note there is no evidence the restaurant had been booked for a private event, or that anyone in the restaurant was asked to leave except those whom Haley staff suspected would exercise their right to free speech in a way that was not favorable to the Governess.
What they should have done is refused to leave. Then when they were forced out they could have added assault to the case.
Contact Attorney William Hamilton in Mt. Pleasant. I would not settle your lawsuit for less than $500,000.00
There were three people at Moe’s. Two males, one female. We already know the two males. The female is the only variable. Ergo, Adrian was not kicked out. Do some math.
“Corey you’re 27. Graduate already.”
He’s majoring in education, probably special ed, so cut him some slack.
Implying that Navy veterans are retarded. Classy.
Sorry. Had to break a few eggs to get the truth.
You have to call a Navy sailor retarded to get to the truth? I’m not sure you really know what effective inquiry is…
Now I didn’t exactly call him stupid.
Chris Burke is the one that said it, but your justification was a bit offensive, too.
Awwwww…..poor baby, you gonna cry?
Hey, I like Navy veterans. I can’t get enough seamen.
Ok. Ok. LOW blow. Got a Sister and Brother who graduated in that.
Figures.
You are going to end up in jail, fool.
Wait, you think its ok to throw a student out of a basketball game because he has a sign protesting the fact that McConnell used political influence to get a job on the backs of the taxpayer with a cushy salary and benefits, even though he has no qualifications for the job.
I see the problem here. Typical Republican, attitude. People with money and power deserve special treatment.
It is a fine American tradition and right to protest. Protest are not allowed at other assemblies organize for another, when their rules forbid it. If such protest were allowed then protesters would be mobbing every televised game. There ways to protest without altering the purposes for which others peacefully assembled.
That is consistent with the law and Constitution. When removed from the game, college officials were carefully following the law.
My views are consistent with liberals or conservatives. There are laws that apply whether protesting at an abortion clinic or basketball game.
They were sitting down eating burritos. That’s protest?
So what? They paid for their food at an establishment serving the public. Why shouldn’t they be allowed to stay and eat?
You are right, but do you believe everything you read? I believe that was they were hoping to incite an incident to embarrass Haley and Christie. The original story implied they were just average customers. Corey was one of only two protesters at the b-game. He knew what was happening, because there people legally protesting across the road from Moe’s.
Wow! I guess a lot of bored people out there are constructing their own tin foil hats…are those black helicopters I hear?
More protest by Corey Craig. ugar Mall to the Cistern Yard. He was one of two students ejected from a women’s basketball game the night before at the TD Arena after holding up a sign alleging corruption among the trustees. College officials said a disclaimer on tickets reserves the college’s right to boot out anyone whose conduct is “offensive.”
Enlarge?Students gathered Friday to again protest the naming of Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell as the College of Charleston’s new president. Some counter-protesters carrying Confederate battle flags also were there. Diane Knich/staff
Craig only recently started protesting the hiring, he said, because he didn’t think that McConnell would get the job and that the opposition McConnell faced among faculty members and students would be too much to overcome.
“I wasn’t worried,” he said. “I was naïve.”
Past statements
Since the hiring, detractors have questioned McConnell’s stance on racial issues and brought up his past comments on Confederate history. One of those in opposition has been the hate-speech watchdog the Southern Poverty Law Center.
On Friday, a representative posted on YouTube an audio recording from an April 2007 radio appearance in which McConnell discussed the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley. The show is called “The Political Cesspool.”
At the time, McConnell was a state senator from Charleston, the Senate president pro tempore and the Hunley restoration project’s lead spokesman. It was one of the hundreds of media interviews about the sub effort he had done nationally and abroad.
Host John Edwards of the Memphis, Tenn.-area station then steered the telephone interview toward the Confederate battle flag controversy in South Carolina. McConnell gave a history of the flag being placed on the Capitol dome beginning with the Civil War centennial anniversary in the 1960s and the later legislative effort to move it to the Statehouse grounds.
“Nobody had a problem with it until all of a sudden – I believe it was in the 1980s – that the NAACP discovered that they were offended by it,” he said.
He then discussed the compromise that put a more square-shaped rebel banner outside the Statehouse. McConnell praised the agreement for what he called its biracial and bipartisan support.
Enlarge?Students gathered Friday to again protest the naming of Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell as the College of Charleston’s new president. Diane Knich/staff
“Everybody was happy but the NAACP,” he said. “For all fair-minded people, the controversy was resolved long ago.”
The connected travel and economic boycott of South Carolina by the NAACP, McConnell said, had “the effect of a burp in the whirlwind.”
John Glasstetter, campaign director with the law center, posted the nearly six-minute recording. He characterized the appearance as an “attack” on the NAACP, while also noting the pro-white political bent of the show, its host and its message.
“Well, isn’t that rich,” Glasstetter said. “There’s nothing like going on a white nationalist program called ‘The Political Cesspool’ to nurture the fabric of mutual respect and attack the NAACP for fanning the flames of intolerance.”
“At best, McConnell showed poor judgment by appearing on the program,” he said.
Posted on its website, the show’s mission statement says that it stands for the “Dispossessed Majority. We represent a philosophy that is pro-white and are against political centralization.”
McConnell on Friday said he’s done hundreds of radio and other media interviews in support of the Hunley. He said he could take partial credit for the compromise on the flag.
“I was one of the ones that authored the amendment to move the flag,” he said. “I took a lot of criticism for it.”
The scene on campus
While the protesters assembled on campus Friday, Ryan Tarrance walked through their rally while clutching a Confederate battle flag. A video camera was strapped to his chest.
But his appearance was just a passing visit. Students yelled for him to leave, and he did.
The Charleston resident, who doesn’t attend the school, said he showed up because he was tired of hearing people trash the flag.
“It’s about heritage and not hate,” Tarrance said. “That’s it.”
The rally’s organizers had urged students in leaflets to walk out of class and gather around 1:15 p.m. More than 300 had assembled 15 minutes later.
Minutes after that, it started to rain. But the students persisted for another half-hour.
One strummed an acoustic guitar while another young man sang a song that the duo said was written for the protest. It featured curse words and evoked laughter.
Biology professor Phil Dustan watched the demonstration.
A survey, Dustan noted, found that 83 percent of the faculty thought McConnell would not be suitable for the top post at the college.
“It’s pretty clear the good ol’ boy system is alive and well on the College of Charleston’s Board of Trustees,” he said. “They solicited us for our opinions, then just ignored them.”

Why Is Sic Willie Deleting Post? I’ve seen perfectly legit and legal post yesterday. And now they are gone. I am going to call into the Bryan Crabtree show and Sarah’s show at WTMA. He has the right to delete whatever. But I might slip in what is going on here when I call in to those shows.
9/17/14 – Woodruff, S.C. (CBS CHARLOTTE) – Several students at Woodruff High School in South Carolina say they were forced to remove American flags from their vehicles on 9/11 due to a rule banning too much “attention to oneself.”
The “religious pamphlets” are apparently what disturbed the squatters. Religious freedom is under attack all over this country. This is just another example.
Multiple threats of boycotts being threatened against Moe’s. Christians need to stand with Chastain and frequent his businesses. A “brother” is under attack from those that are evil and we need to stand with this man and his family.
If we don’t, who will they target next?
You stand with satan. Moe’s of Charleston is run by corrupt evil.
True Christians would hike the Appalachian trail to get to a Moe’s for Chastain.
We who are not hatefilled phonies pretending that they are more important because they believe in fantasy are pretty sick and tired of you whining about that fantasy thing you all are so obsessed with.
Join the real world and leave that stuff in PRIVATE where it belongs.
that work of fiction you only pick and choose the parts you like out of says that you will never be rewarded by gawd if you stand out on the streets and screech to everyone like a hypocrite what a fabulous christian you are because your gawd does NOT like that – NOT AT ALL – and he WILL NOT REWARD YOU EVER FOR SUCH ACTIVITIES.
Check it out. I believe it’s in Matthew
Please vote for Sheheen, Ervin, or French Time to get rid of the Pakistani,
Corey should write up his account of the whole thing for FITS.
Why don’t you mentor this clown Buz?Advice coming from the humiliated and disgraced queen of falsehoods and conspiratorial theories would surely be a resume enhancer for a young activist.
Be sure to tell him about that defamation judgement against TSN and how proud you apparently are of that.
LOL
Fat Lady has still not sung on that, and you know it.
btw, before you go there — I am no longer fat, and I have never been a lady.
All they needed to do was put up a sign saying the restaurant was closed for a private event at a reasonable time and let diners know they would need to be done eating and leave by a certain, reasonable time. Places in downtown Charleston do that all the time for convention events. There are so many places to eat the locals just go a few doors down. Then they could establish whatever checkpoint/admission procedures they want to control access so they can protect the Governors from being embarrassed by citizens and voters which don’t meet whatever standard they’ve set. It shoudn’t be hard to check everyone against whatever blacklist is maintained. Surely by now they can scan IDs and do that. Our family will boycott all Moe’s restaurants now. Frankly, it would save us all a whole lot of time and trouble if a place of busines would just post their affiliation on the door. We maintain a list and try to keep track. We use the Boycott app. However, I’m really looking for a simple, efficient way to shop without funding the enemy.
Other diners were allowed to stay, so the event was never private.
Then they would not be able to use jackboot tactics and show how powerful and important they are and how vile and despicable YOU are.
Moes is the only place my buddy Buck, who eats like a horse, said this food sucks! and threw about half his meal we got at CNN Center in Atlanta in the trash. They opened a Moes here in my small town, a few ppl try it but most keep heading on past, good for them!
Corey will have a viable cause of action when douche nozzle is a protected class.
the only good thing about moe’s is that they have a kids menu which will save you a few bucks over chipotle. but there is no contest for flavor and quality, chipotle is completely great. i don’t like eating corporate burritos if i don’t have to, but given the choice… no contest.
I have a right to never eat at Moe’s again, and I NEVER FUCKING WILL.
Moe’s national management can explain all they want how this is just this one store. I fucking do not care.
Do you think they are allowed to serve African Americans?
As the Don Seigelman case in Alabama has shown, appointing a campaign donor to a job, even a non-paying one, is Racketeering, and subject to a lengthy prison term.
The case precedent is there. Fit Nikki for something in a nice orange.
Why all the crying?
Is there another article elsewhere about this? I’d like to find out of there are other sources on this, because this is something that would be delicious with regard to Nikki Haley and Chris Christie and the fact that they may not need more controversy than they are already getting.
