SCHOOL RECORD STREAK IN JEOPARDY AGAINST GEORGIA …

Head coach Steve Spurrier‘s University of South Carolina team remained ranked in the national polls for the 67th straight time – extending a school record.

Of course the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) barely managed to remain in the Top 25 following an uninspired 33-23 victory over unranked East Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday night.

South Carolina was ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 (down three spots) and No. 23 in the Amway Coaches’ poll (down two spots).

Also, South Carolina’s poll streak – which dates back to the second week of the 2010 season – is in real jeopardy this weekend when No. 6 Georgia (1-0, 0-0 SEC) rolls into Columbia with Heisman Trophy frontrunner Todd Gurley.  Kickoff of that game is set for 3:30 p.m. EDT with CBS televising the game nationally.  Verne Lundquist (a.k.a. the “Golden Throat”) and Gary Danielson will be in the booth with Allie LaForce patrolling the sidelines.

A loss against the favored Bulldogs and the Gamecocks would find themselves unranked for the first time in more than four seasons.

Meanwhile head coach Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) held at No. 23 in the AP poll and No. 24 in the coaches’ poll.

You can go ahead and accept that. It’s going to be a loooooooong Saturday in Willie Brice when UGA comes to town.

Yes we are. I expect to get a whipping from FSU. I’m just glad that we were not preseason #9 and our “head ball coach” did not say this is the “best team” he has had in a long time.

That is pretty embarrassing to be sure. Must be disappointing to be looking at possibly six losses in a row to such a hapless program. Are you sad about the last five beatdowns at the hands of the “head ball coach”, or has it made you a better person?

If they have not already, it is time to take the 60 ft banner down.

They shouldn’t even be in the Top Twenty Five.

Their defense is horrible..

They’re an uninspiring, boring to watch football team. Will be lucky to break.500

18 play, 11 minute drive ending in 3 points is boring to most, but to me, a Tiger fan, it’s a work of art and puts the fear of God in me.

To be real, GA, FLA, MO, Aub, TN, and Clemson are all losses. A QB who can’t throw or read a defense, the lack of any meaningful running game from not having a meaningful running game plan to not utilizing or playing all running backs at all, and a defense that can’t do anything right. A stale throwing game plan with a QB that can not throw, and a calculated effort to avoid playing red shirt freshmen and sophomores even if it means losing is a philosophy that will be shown for what it is…stodgy. I suggest going back to the huddle then calling plays in via receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks off the sideline giving every man with a helmet playing time…to build for next year. 9th to last in two games? Make it happen.

“9th in the polls to last place after two games?” What are you talking about. Yes they dropped to 23/24 but last place would be #128. I see what you are trying to say but say it right. By the way no Clemson isn’t a loss. Clemson cant stop the run and they wont stop Davis, and Wilds, or Cooper, or Byrd on the sweep, or even Williams when he shows he is faster than Davis. It doesn’t matter how bad they play, Spurrier owns Dabo and will out coach him all day yet again and that Offense will stop. I think Louisville, FSU, USC, UNC and maybe even GT with that run game all beat Clemson whose front line has proven they cant stop a D-1 run game.

They proved “they cant stop a D-1 run game”..in one game..that also happened to be the first game?

The 3rd stringers were in at the half Saturday..so when was this “proven”? Using that logic, USC proved they may not win another game this year in “D-1”.

USC is the only one of the 2 to play and win against a d-1 school. Clemson only beat SC State who is FCS not FBS, so your logic is a dumb as your screen name.

you people are the biggest bunch of whining, negative, self-loathing weirdos I’ve ever encountered. and you apparently know very little about sports. guess that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering how much time yall spend commenting on blogs.

how come no one pointed out that clemson hung 73 points on poor SC State…and held at 23. now that’s funny.

Gamecocks are having a rough time, but you have to admire the way they ground up 11 minutes and 18 plays on there last drive. You never want to fall behind the Gamecocks.

Does Dabo really have a clock in the locker room that counts down to the Carolina game each year or is that a joke?

Reply
its true September 7, 2014 at 9:29 pm

no, he really does have one

Reply
Bible Thumper September 7, 2014 at 9:36 pm

Yes to both. He has the clock and it is a joke.

Did Spurrier really criticize Saban’s success as a coach or was that a joke?

Touchdowns.

that could happen but, September 7, 2014 at 8:49 pm

that’s less than Clemson lost to them though, so by some others “Clemson logic” where you beat a team the other lost to and that somehow that makes them better, would losing to them by less make Carolina better too? I’ll bet this game is closer than the Clemson FSU game the next week

You tickle me. Misery loves company and all that, but come on, y’all play your games and we’ll play ours and then we’ll see how Clemtech and Carolina match up head to head.

We’ll see. I’m not getting my hopes up for this one, but whether it’s Clemson or Carolina, I always hope for a Georgia loss.

and as soon as FSU stomps the Tigers, both SC schools will be out of the Top 25. When was the last time that happened?
