“SOUTH CAROLINA NEEDS AN EXPERIENCED CPA WITH INTEGRITY”
Columbia, SC – Kyle Herbert, Democrat Nominee for Comptroller General today issued a challenge to Richard Eckstrom, the incumbent Comptroller General, to a CPA debate.
“I believe that our state’s top accountant should be an experienced CPA. I am. I am also a Certified Management Accountant with an MBA from the Citadel. I also believe that our state’s top accountant should have ethics and integrity, qualities that I feel Mr. Eckstrom is lacking,” said Herbert.
Herbert stated, “I would like to know if Mr. Eckstrom understands what it is to be a CPA and does he have the ability and integrity to continue as our state’s top accountant.” Herbert would like to challenge Eckstrom on his accounting skills and practices as they relate to serving as Comptroller General.
“First, we have to establish if Mr. Eckstrom is still considered a CPA.
According to the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Mr. Eckstrom’s CPA certification has lapsed twice, once on December 31, 2006 and again on January 31, 2013.
Secondly, we have to wonder if Mr. Eckstrom understands accounting,” said Herbert.
On two separate occasions he has filed the important State’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report late.
South Carolinians need to know that an experienced CPA with integrity is in this important accounting position. Herbert is hoping to have the CPA debate next month.

Pam, it’s often said that bullies, when tested, are the most pusillanimous people of all. You fit that description.
I’m trying to figure out how this one goes. In my head I’m visualizing my CPA and a couple of others I know attempting to gain the interest and attention of everyday voters with a debate on CPA skills, experience, etc.
If the guy can do it, he ought to be reaching for a higher office.

It is one of the most powerful offices in state government. He who controls the accounting controls a WHOLE LOT. That is why we need a new comptroller
We certainly don’t disagree on the importance. My post was to the practicality and the effect of a debate on accounting skills in order to engage the voters.
There are several positions in State government that are important and powerful and not all of them elected. The first that comes to mind is Governor. The voters didn’t give a crap about credentials and preparedness for that one last time as we all now know.
Its a very important office,but probably less than Ten percent of the voters even know what it is or does.
Anyway Eckstrom will be ReElected because he is the Republican .

Rational people will refuse to give any credence to the kinds of wild allegations thrown about in an election. Richard Eckstrom is an honorable man that ‘s served our state well. We’re blessed to have him.
