BUT THE SPECTER OF TAX HIKES REMAINS …

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in South Carolina is currently $3.15 – the cheapest statewide average in America, according to the AAA fuel gauge.

That’s two cents cheaper than it was a week ago and sixteen cents cheaper than it was a month ago.   Oh, and nineteen cents cheaper than when we last checked in on gas prices in the spring.   It’s also twenty-nine cents below the national average of $3.44 per gallon of regular unleaded – which is down from $3.58 a month ago.

Good news, right?  Sure …

South Carolina’s gas is four cents cheaper than Mississippi’s – the state with the second-lowest prices.  Of course that brings up something the mainstream media never  points out: While the Palmetto and Magnolia States always boast some of the nation’s cheapest petrol – the statistic is deceiving.  How so?  Well, South Carolina and Mississippi are dirt poor – which means even though their gas prices are low, their residents are still paying a higher percentage of their income on fuel than residents of other states.

In fact Mississippians pay the highest percentage of their income on fuel costs, with South Carolina ranking No. 2.

Not good, people … and it’s about to get worse.

“Republicans” led by S.C. Senators Hugh Leatherman (RINO-Florence) and Ray Cleary (RINO-Horry) want to impose a whopping 125 percent increase in the state’s gasoline tax, hoping to hike it from 16 to 36 cents over a ten year period beginning in 2015.

Other “Republican” lawmakers are reportedly planning to introduce similar increases …

Thankfully moderate Democratic S.C. Rep. Bakari Sellers – who is running for lieutenant governor – has vowed to block this increase.  That’s a pretty courageous stand for a Democrat to take – especially with all the clamoring about our state’s infrastructure needs.

(For more on that scam, CLICK HERE).

We oppose the gas tax hike on principle – and support Sellers in his efforts to achieve modest gas tax relief.

On 8/14/2006, gas prices were $3.00/gallon- $.07 less than what I paid for it 2 days ago. And with inflation..how much is $3.00/gallon worth today? $3.50/gallon now I guess?

Of course the economy was heading into a landslide trainwreck, but don’t let that change your mind any.

Big shit (above) said 8 years ago..2014-8=2006.
Check the EIA link above. I didn’t make it up.

The link makes you look like a lying Dumb@$$…Prices spiked under Bush…he released reserves, and corrected the problem..Then they have continually risen since Obama was elected. Higher prices, on top of a horrible economy, and diminished wages. You are STUPID.

E Norma Scok August 19, 2014 at 3:30 pm

I merely pulled statistical data from an unbiased source to prove you wrong.
How that appears to make me appear like a “lying dumbass”, I have no idea. Once again, logic escapes you.
Is this that “substance” you alluded to in the other comment? Lots of name calling and incorrect facts?
I think we’re done here.

GrandTango August 19, 2014 at 3:33 pm

But the data contradicts what you said.

E Norma Scok August 19, 2014 at 3:41 pm

You stated to go back 8 years, and I did.
What is contradictory?
Just say you were wrong and we’ll stop this.

$1.80? That’s a story you made up.

The EIA link above shows gas at $1.847 / gallon on 1/19/09.

Nölff August 19, 2014 at 3:47 pm

The president doesn’t have enough power to change gas prices like that. Gas is expensive under both of those buffoons, though.

Gas prices on in the Summer of 2008 reached $4.11 a gallon. I forget who was President then, but it was clearly his fault. On an inflation adjusted basis, gas is down about a dollar a gallon. We can thank the current President for that, right GT.

You said 8 years ago; that’s what I provided.

Sign on station in downtown Spartanburg yesterday “Ethanol and Non Ethanol regular – same price” ($3.699) – He didn’t stock the ethanol gas.

Noteworthy is the difference in price in Spartanburg – two weeks ago, diesel was $3.699 here in Columbia, and $3.57 there. This week it’s reversed – $3.519 at the Murphy station on 378 near I-20, and $3.798 at the truck stop at US 221 and I-26 near Spartanburg. Worse price indowntown Spartanburg.

They died to keep it expensive.

Our foreign policy is designed to keep oil off the market and prices high.

Ignore the rhetoric.
Think about it.
Look at the results.

Our leaders don’t send troops to the Mid-East to fight for our freedoms or to steal *their* oil for *us*. They send them to increase the profits of the military industrial complex, Big Oil, and our *allies*, the Saudis….

SC has had a large increase in population (almost up to 5 million now). With that comes more tax revenue for the state and locals. We don’t need gas tax hikes. We need people in office who will not abuse and misuse OUR money, and who will NOT steal from us.

“Rep. Bakari Sellers – who is running for lieutenant governor – has vowed to block this increase.”

He is not even elected yet, nor likely to be. His only power to block would be as tie breaker vote in the Senate.

Governor Haley has also vowed to block a increase and actually has the power to do so. Why not mentioning it? I’m not necessarily against a tax hike but support accurate reporting.

This bias is representative of a change in your preferences.
