PAT MCKINNEY WITHDRAWS FROM SC LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S RACE
Wealthy Lowcountry, S.C. developer Pat McKinney spent several months – and several hundred thousand dollars of his own money – running for lieutenant governor at the request of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.
It was all part of Haley’s effort to exact a measure of revenge against her nemesis Glenn McConnell – who inherited the lieutenant governor’s job in 2012 but wound up declining to run for reelection to the largely ceremonial, part-time post. McConnell and Haley sparred extensively during her first year as governor, and she wanted to do everything within her power to make his life miserable.
So she did …
Haley was also grooming McKinney to take her place in 2018 – and his campaign commercials (produced by Haley’s political consultant) repeatedly stressed his connections to the governor.
How’d the plan go?
Fairly well. McKinney finished in second place in this week’s “Republican” primary for lieutenant governor – with the results of an official recount expected to confirm his participation in a June 24 runoff election against former S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster.
And while McKinney would have had to overcome a big deficit to beat McMaster, most political analysts agree he had a “path to victory” against the intellectually challenged good ol’ boy.
McKinney ended any such speculation this week, though, by announcing his decision to exit the race.
“While we have likely received enough votes to be in the runoff, after much thoughtful prayer and consideration, I am withdrawing from consideration relative to the ongoing recount and will not participate in a runoff,” he said in an email to supporters. “Despite the emotional drain and grief over burying both my father and my wife’s father in the last eight weeks, we persevered because we felt so strongly about our message. Given all of these circumstances, I am ready to once again be a full time husband, father and grandfather.”
McKinney accompanied his statement with an official notice of withdrawal to the S.C. Election Commission (SCEC).

McKinney’s announcement caught several key members of his own campaign – and several of his prominent political supporters – completely by surprise. That’s understandable, less than 24 hours after bowing out of the race his spokesman was telling reporters how excited he was to continue bringing his “message of change” to the people.
Well … a dwindling percentage of people, anyway.
“I was blindsided,” one of McKinney’s top staffers told FITS.
So … why did McKinney drop out? Is it really due to the “emotional drain” of losing family members? And the result of “thoughtful prayer?”
Of course not …
According to sources familiar with his decision, McKinney didn’t want to shell out anymore of his fortune on a race he didn’t think he could win.
“Nikki offered her endorsement but told him he would have to pay for the television time,” one of our sources says.
Another source says McKinney was told he would have to pay out of pocket for several hundred thousand dollars worth of negative ads against McMaster (who is as vulnerable as he is dim).
In the end, McKinney dropped out of the race because the bill for all of those ads was too steep … and victory far from guaranteed.
As a result of McKinney’s decision, McMaster is now likely to face Mike Campbell – son of the late two-term Gov. Carroll Campbell – on June 24. While Campbell is expected to receive some significant family money in support of his bid, his “path to victory” against McMaster is much more difficult.

Claiming he is a Christian is not supportable – but at least you claim to be Christian. He did not.
This is an open debate.
He attended church. He invoked God and scripture in his writing and speeches. By all worldly definitions he was a Christian. I don’t judge a man’s salvation. Personally, I believe only John 3:16 is required.

I identify with that statement.
Anyone may say they’re a Christian, but people who call Jesus a “philosopher” probably are in the back of the room. I don’t care where God chooses to place the line between “Christian” and “non-Christian”.. that’s His business, not mine… if He asks me, I’ll say everyone is a Christian, and if he goes along with it, that will be fine with me.
But, when you’re looking for a definition of Christian – even in a worldly sense – there’s no way you could include Jefferson in any formal way that couldn’t be stretched to include everyone.
I often here liberals promoting a cause and then criticize Christians. They don’t realize the origins of there cause are often Christians or influenced by Christian thought. There were many influences for Jefferson’s ideas, but one the major ones was Christianity.

Paul calls the Law and the Prophets our tutor during our childhood. These covenants demonstrate failed ways to organize society and relationships with god.

No – he did not make covenants with mankind – his law was specifically for the Jews through Moses to inherit the promise he gave to Abraham. Only after Jesus opened the door for Gentiles was a new covenant available for all of mankind. It was not associated with the covenant of the Mosaic Law… since the promise was not to Gentiles, but exclusively to the seed of Abraham.

All of these verses define our relationship to God and our fellow man, not to the government. You are suggesting that government should punish us for refusal to give.
Actually, government is an extension of our relationship to God.. if you refuse to believe this, you refuse to believe that your relationship to government is derived from the grounding principles of your faith that defines your relationship to your fellow man.
All avenues that lead to your treatment of your fellow man must be based on the relationship you have to God, and your responsibility to Him for your care for your fellow man.

After my father died every Sunday at mass for two years I prayed that God would do something to save my mom from the terrible loneliness that was keeping her depressed. Then my 40 year old sister went through a horrible divorce and moved back in with my mom. My mom started praying that my sister would find a new man and re-marry which she did. He is a full-patch member of the Outlaws and they now in a trailer in Daytona.
I still go to mass. I pray that my wife who is kneeling next to me is not praying for me. I think that God wants us to fix as many of our own problems as possible so he can focus on the bigger things.

Let’s see, Queen Haley endorses Mitt Romney in the SC GOP Presidential Primary, and despite having the most money and best organization, he loses to Newt Gingrich. Then she endorses McKinney who despite, having the most money and best organization, comes in second to McMaster. If I was a politician, I would be afraid of getting her endorsement!
McKinney had the least name recognition and there were no deep ideological differences. In spite of what you hear from the media it is not always the most money that wins.
Could be worse, you could get Will Folk’s endorsement, run for Superintendent of Education and come in last.

Any cursory knowledge of runoff elections would show that, unless McMaster made a huge gaffe, and since there are no significant ideological differences, for McKinney to pick up 26% to McMaster’s 6% was virtually impossible.

This shows how lost the Campbells really are. Spending money to win a ceremonial (meaningless) political seat is absurd since it has never been a good path to the govenors office. It is obvious McMaster announced March 2014 to spoil Haley’s pick for Lt Gov. They really hate her. LoL. Now “they” did not count on Mike Campbell tying for second. McMaster knows Mike could transition to Gov in 2018 from the Lt Gov’s seat. (see ruining Loftis’ chances) He could lose all by himself, but somehow, his base, our anti-Haley base, will tap Mike for Lt Gov.
I still think Haley will be reelected, but talk about powerless. She really messed up. I suggest she focus on a US Congressional District to horn in on, but really, as Gov, she is feckless even if reelected. Other than that, start studying Indiana’s casino gambling and roll the dice for it here. Can’t believe I’m saying it, but her warming the bench till 2018 is our best bet.
Nothing will happen on casinos unless more happens in a neighboring state. If the Catawbas get gambling in North Carolina then there might be pressure on SC. Just like Georgia lottery put pressure on SC.
There is also a demographic problem. Young people <30 are gambling in much smaller numbers. They are involved in video games and some online gaming. Vegas now earns more from entertainment. Gambling is way down in Vegas, Atlantic City, and Detroit.
Since Toal rebuked the Catawba’s plans in Fort Mill, I would drive to NC for a Texas Holdem Tournament, Black Jack, Keno, one armed bandits…so would a lot of other South Carolinians. The Catawba ruling was hateful.
