AND WHY WE CARE …
Earlier this week, FITS exclusively reported on Darlington County (S.C.) Sheriff Wayne Byrd’s admission of an extramarital affair.
Wait … what do we care about the personal life of some penny ante Barney Fife in the South Carolina backwoods?
Easy: Nothing.
We’re writing about it because Byrd’s affair fits both of the criteria we normally use in weighing whether to write about people’s personal problems – a clear connection between the affair and an official’s taxpayer-funded duties and/ or an element of hypocrisy in terms of the image they present to voters.
In Byrd’s case he was banging a subordinate at the Darlington County Sheriff’s office – and may have even fired an employee in an effort to keep his affair a secret. Not only that Byrd proposed giving his lover a raise nearly 20 times larger than the one he proposed giving a more qualified employee.
That’s clearly an abuse of the public trust.
Then there’s Byrd’s response to the drama …
“This story is two years old and the facts have not changed in that time,” Byrd said. “My wife, my family, and my God are fully aware of my actions, and have been aware since the beginning. They have forgiven me and we are moving forward in our private lives. I am a flawed human being with feet of clay and I take complete responsibility for my actions, both public and private. I ask the people of Darlington County for their forgiveness and hope they will judge me on my record as Sheriff.”
Ummmm … okay.
Byrd is the subject of a wrongful termination lawsuit filed in 2012 by former Darlington Sheriff’s lieutenant Mike Hall, who alleges he was fired as part of Byrd’s effort to cover-up his affair with his assistant, Kristan Jeffords. A trial in Hall’s lawsuit is set to begin in July.

I thought all deputies throughout the state were at-will employees of the sheriff and he could fire them at any time for no reason…so, how can there ever be a ‘wrongful termination’ from a sheriff’s department?
You are right on all points
Courts have upheld Sheriff’s on all cases I can recollect
Sounds and reads like the fired Deputy is building his case file for his candidacy for Sheriff when Byrd comes up for re-election
Oh gee, another apology from a fucking cockroach caught fucking
Well at least he was porking someone of the opposite sex, I think
Like the line about “God is fully aware”. Seems like the Byrd’s of the world have an intimate relationship with God not available to other mere mortals
NO, I HAVE NOT FORGIVEN YOU.
To be clear, Our Father was addressing Wayne Byrd, not Jim Lewis (OWB).
Same goes for this guy.

Thank you for the clarification. In my haste Mr. Byrd’s name was omitted.
Not a problem, Pater Noster.
TBG humbly beseeches you to demonstrate your gratitude on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, in the Valley of Death.
Your servant,

Pictures of the “lover” please.
remember you asked for it

Looks like Curtis Loftis’ manservant!
remember you asked for it
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zWX1…TBG thinks that’s the Sheriff.
Odd that he doesn’t get that if people judge him by his record as sheriff, which includes sleeping with a subordinate, then giving said subordinate a pay raise and firing someone not willing to keep his mouth shut over it, that the end result should be him losing in a landslide.
How deluded can one be?
LOL…….classic……
“Wait … what do we care about the personal life of some penny ante Barney Fife in the South Carolina backwoods?….”
spoken just like a Pharaoh in Egypt……..
God might forgive, but wives never forgive on this stuff. They just use it as the ultimate leverage for years and years to come.
Nah, they forgive, they just DON’T EVER FORGET! The PTSD is a bitch. Triggers all over the place: TV, movies, the neighborhood, the whole whoring political class, celebrities, the clergy… who’s left??? Aren’t they a proud bunch? I think they should qualify for a federal holiday. It’s a religion all it’s own. Ask all those entitled Jesus cheaters for whom the 7th commandment is just a suggestion – Sanford, Eckstrom, and just about every evangelical leader seems to have a skeleton in their closet, …. Frauds. No integrity.
You left out Peeler, Clinton, Donna, Maria, Nikki, Kelly, Cynthia and the list goes on!
Remember the women are just as guilty, or even more so!
If they did not spread em, it would be rape and then there would be Hell to pay, sooner than later.
Right girls!
You may rest assured in SC any lying cheating crooked politician is going to drag God into the mess they’ve made. Perhaps they should keep God in their heart and mind and out of their media statements?
It’s a nationwide epidemic, not exclusive to SC.
Feet of clay? More like dick of clay.
Why does Dr Pepper come in a bottle?
Because his wife is too focused on raising the children.
No big deal…Mark Sanford did it and still does, Richard Eckstrom did it and still does, Bob Peeler did it and still does! What about Nikki Haley and Bill Clinton? The Republican Party and the Democratic Party seem to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to these immoral and unethical activities, all the while, talking of their faith!
Jesus said to be forgiven, “Go and Sin No More”! Not, go, ask forgiveness and keep sinning!
But, as long as you talk religion and profess faith and can win an election for the Party, It does not matter what your morals are! And you can lie, steal and commit unethical acts, just make sure to mock God withn your speech and fein your religious leanings and all will be well! Maybe in this world, not in the next!
They always talk the talk when caught ; but, do walk the walk! I see some of the aforementioned in Church every Sunday. They think they are fooling people . They may fool a few fools(as long as not their family) but, wait until they stand before GOD! Think you can fool him?
Peeler was in the choir! Showed up with Donna every Sunday during their affair!
They will have a horrible price to pay one day!
The affair and throwing their children under the bus will come back in spades.
