S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley raised $140,000 during a September visit with Indian-American donors in Houston, Texas.
Haley’s haul came courtesy of the India House – a 501(c)3 group devoted to “uniting the Indian community.”
Haley’s September 21 trip “included a private meeting with an invited list of supporters, many of whom later met her that evening at Hotel ZaZa in the Museum District and donated around $140,000, according to one source, for her re-election campaign next year,” the website India West reported.
The paper quoted extensively from Haley’s remarks, including her familiar (and possibly apocryphal) story about playing kickball in Bamberg, S.C. with white and black children who weren’t sure which team she should be on.
“I just took the ball and ran with it,” Haley told the crowd, “and the kids ran with me. That showed me that all you needed was to go for it and others would follow.”
Say what you want about Haley (and this website has said plenty) but there’s no denying she has “taken the ball and run with it” when it comes to raising campaign cash.
