Clemson University running back Roderick McDowell is named in court documents related to the alleged disappearance of a purse which is said to have contained a large sum of cash, sources tell FITS.
City of Clemson police chief Jimmy Dixon confirmed to FITS that an incident involving McDowell took place in May 2012 following a traffic stop, but declined to comment further – referring us to the law office of Anderson, S.C. attorney James D. Jolley.
Jolley did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
FITS is endeavoring to obtain copies of the court documents – as well as any incident reports or dashboard camera videos related to the case. However, Dixon told us there was no dashboard camera video featuring McDowell because he appeared on the scene “after the traffic stop.”
Hmmmm …
Clemson University officials have yet to comment on the situation.
McDowell – a 5-foot-9, 195-pound senior from Sumter, S.C. – had a career-high 132 yards on 22 carries in the Tigers’ 38-35 victory over Georgia last weekend. Last year he amassed 450 yards on 83 carries as Andre Ellington’s backup.
UPDATE: Our sources say McDowell has not been named as a defendant in any court case related to this matter – at least not yet. The court case in which his name allegedly appears was filed last fall against the City of Clemson.
UPDATE II: More details emerging in the case. McDowell is said to have received the purse in question from a member of the Clemson police department following the arrest of one of his friends.
UPDATE III: Our sources in the S.C. Thirteenth Judicial Circuit have confirmed that a case against the City of Clemson, S.C. – one involving McDowell – was filed in September 2012.
