U.S. Senate candidate Nancy Mace has come out against American military intervention in the Syrian Civil War – putting her at odds with incumbent “Republican in Name Only” U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.
“I find no compelling national security reason to engage our military in Syria,” Mace said in a statement. “I believe American troops should be fighting against al-Qaeda, not alongside them.”
Mace added that “bolstering an opposition dominated by al-Qaeda will hurt our national interests and only deteriorate the situation in the Middle East.”
“Senator Graham continues to support President Obama’s failed foreign policy. And just yesterday said he would try and ‘sell’ a broader engagement to the people of South Carolina,” she said. “I will stand with the people of South Carolina against Obama’s failed leadership and against military action in Syria.”
South Carolinians aren’t the only ones Graham is attempting to sell. He’s been appealing to other “Republican” members of the U.S. Congress after a series of strategy meetings with Obama over the Labor Day weekend (with some success it would appear).
This website has repeatedly argued against American involvement in this conflict (see here, here, here and here). Even the chairman of Obama’s joint chiefs of staff has expressed grave reservations.
Unfortunately Obama – and “Republican” warmongers like U.S. Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham – aren’t listening.

I use the term “objective” because every military mission should have one. We
sometimes refer to it as the “in order to” statement as in “…attack target 1 with JDAMs in order to destroy the missile launchers parked there in order to prevent the Syrian Army from launching another missile born chemical attack”.
I haven’t seen a strategic/national level “in order to” statement. If we want to attrit his launchers, we should have done that on day one before he began parking them near schools and hospitals. If we want to attrit his chemical weapons stockpile making it all airborne in an explosion might not be the best way to do it. Taking Assad himself out might only allow his chemical weapons to wind up in even less scrupulous hands…
If neither you nor Mace-Jackson has seen such an order then with certainty it must not exist. (Pablum)

Actually, no, I haven’t seen the National Intelligence Estimate produced by the NSC, Brigadier Generals get the coffee in those briefs. I see what we produce over here daily. (we call it the nine o’clock follies)
Our take is less refined and far less “edited” by political constraints and considerations. We have real smart young men and women who can tell you what’s in a crate by the size, shape, color and weight of the crate. They can see things that might concern your wife next time she gets excited while getting a little sun in your backyard. They can tell you what weapon was fired by the crater it produced and can generally tell you from where the weapon was fired from without having seen it fire.
As for the Syria threat, I now know way more than I really want to about Syria’s capabilities.
