S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley was out-raised by her Democratic rival during the second fundraising quarter of 2014, although she still enjoys a substantial advantage in cash on hand.
Haley reported donations of nearly $620,000 on her latest report – but $47,000 of that total came in after the June 30 deadline. That means Haley’s second quarter total was approximately $573,000. Meanwhile presumed Democratic nominee Vincent Sheheen raised a little more than $611,000 during the second quarter, which runs from April through June.
In addition to raising more money, Sheheen’s campaign spent less – much less. The Democratic Senator’s expenses for the last quarter totaled a little less than $41,000 (6.7 percent of what he raised), while Team Haley spent a whopping $173,000 (30 percent of what she raised).
Obviously Haley’s high “burn rate” will be something to keep an eye on as this campaign heats up …
Republicans pounced on Sheheen’s report, noting that more than $225,000 of his haul came from attorneys.
“He’s nothing but a tool of the trial lawyer lobby – another attorney getting rich off of frivolous lawsuits,” one GOP operative told FITS.
While Sheheen bested Haley in second quarter donations – and ran a much tighter ship – Haley has a tremendous head start in the 2014 money race. The “Republican” incumbent boasts $2.4 million in cash on hand, compared to Sheheen’s $571,000. Haley also has a third party political action committee – The Movement Fund – working on her behalf.

If a better person steps up to the plate, so be it, but I think it’ll take more than the “trial lawyer” talk to convince me that Sheheen could fuck things up worse than Haley has.

I think they have the right idea myself. My understanding is that the nomination of the cat actually brought the opposing sides of the human participants together in an effort to strike the cat off the ballot….apparently they felt the cat had a good chance of winning.
