Along with Wedding Crashers … and The Bridge on the River Kwai … we’ve long believed Anchorman was one of those movies Hollywood should let stand.
But sequels make lots of money, and well … that’s what makes our world go ’round (for better or worse).
And occasionally (see Grumpier Old Men) the second acts are actually better than the original – although we think Judd Apatow will be hard-pressed to top his 2004 hit.
And so Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Champ Kind (David Koechner) and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) are trading San Diego for New York City, the 1970s for the 1980s and local network news for the “Global News Network.”

I worked with a news director/ head anchor at WPDE that was the embodiment of Ron Burgandy without the mustache, totally full of himself, completely aloof to the fact he was a complete tool, and dumber than a box of bottle caps. So, being able to relate to this scenario turned movie, I’ve always had a soft spot for the first Anchorman. I’ll see this one too, but there is no way it will be as hilarious as the first one. You gotta admit Smirks, the flute solo in the first one is prop comedy gold!
