A pair of South Carolina “Republicans” are running for Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina.

Incumbent Glenn McConnell – who inherited this largely ceremonial position when former “Lite Gov” Ken Ard resigned in disgrace last March – made his announcement via a videoconference message at the S.C. Republican Party convention over the weekend. The Charleston RINO – who enjoys dressing up as a Confederate soldier and steering millions of tax dollars toward Civil War-related projects – was a powerful leader of the State Senate until Ard resigned.

Now he’s said to be biding his time until the chief justice position on the S.C. Supreme Court opens up …

Also running for “Lite Gov?” Bible thumping former Afghan War vet Bill Connor – who wears his faith on one sleeve and his military service on the other.

This website endorsed Connor’s 2010 bid for lieutenant governor because he was running against Ard – a fiscal liberal. However we have since come to view him in a much dimmer light given his perpetual sanctimoniousness and lack of substance.

We suspect McConnell and Connor won’t be the only “Republicans” to make a run at this part-time post – which is only relevant in that its occupant is tasked with ruling on procedural disputes in the State Senate.

That’s a good thing, because neither of these two are doing much for us …

No one who served with Connor will stand up with him. He’s a REMF with an invented medal. Ask the people who served with him; he took a helicopter half-way out and then rode back while shooting a pistol out a partially rolled-down window. Firefight my arse!

So Lt.Lite wants to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
Pardon my dumbness but I thought the best candidate for Chief Justice would be an individual at the pinnacle of their judicial career
Unless the bio information is incorrect on Lt.Lite he hasn’t practiced law in over 25 years and when he did practice law word is that was the only skill level he achieved
Now, if Lt.Lite happens to be a closet alcoholic in addition to his other closet activities then by all means put another foul mouthed, falling down, car swiping, fender bending drunk of a cockroach in the big chair

Where else, other than a pulpit somewhere, could GM wear lavender or purple like that and not get some sideways comments?

Toal is bad, but at least she had a legal career and some time on the bench before becoming Chief. McConnell would be a nightmare in that post.

Toal is way worse than bad. She’s corrupt to the core and it’s a matter of time. McConnell is a skilled politician, knows that the Chief Justice position is the most powerful political position in the state, knows that anyone in the legislature that doesn’t vote for him will be politically ruined for life and he would get a sweet increase in his retirement. Toal and McConnell has been collecting negative chits against the other for years. McConnell blames Toal for providing John Monk the inside info on his Henley article several years ago (she did) and Toal blames McConnell for providing Rick Brundrette with data on her many scandals.(He did)(Note that neither blamed the other for providing anything to Sic Willie.) No wonder McConnell didn’t bow to Queen Jean when she asked him to extend her reign by four years. Who didn’t see that one coming.

None of what you have said changes my assertion that McConnell would be an awful Chief Justice. His legal knowledge is zero. That doesn’t mean he won’t get the position, but our body of law would be the worse for it.

I agree with both of you. It’s all politics. Integrity, knowledge, legal temperament, maturity or ability has nothing to do with the selection of a Chief Justice in South Carolina.

Can something be done to take the Office on Aging out of the Lt. Gov’s office? It does not belong there and McConnell has no idea of what is going on with aging.

Yeah, that may be, but his staff knows what is going on. And they are pretty good. I have been quite impressed with the quality of majors, captions and lieutenants he has been able to assemble.

if connor does run against mcconnell it could turn out to be the primary highlight of 2014 for the gop. mcconnell has no experience campaigning across the state, connor paid his dues doing that in 2010. mcconnell could have an easier time raising funds than connor due his incumbency. when it comes to the actual campaign bill has the energy, glenn has the experience. regardless of who wins it looks like this could be the best primary campaign of this election cycle.
