I would like to see Mr. Sanford campaign arm in arm with Maria, his wife to be. Keeping her in the shadows smacks of a dirty old man who secretly keeps his mistress away from the public eye. If he is engaged to this woman then why shouldn’t he campaign with her by his side, instead of acting as if she did not exist?
The last few days has certainly amplified the fears many SC residents about Sanford’s honesty. Hiding the woman he claims to be his soul mate and the woman wearing his engagement ring from view, for political advantage, plays into those fears.
Belen’s wish not to be exploited, gawked at, harassed, etc., probably figures strongly. She doesn’t have the protections she had in Argentina.
