The Hasert rule is stupid. The reason our government has ceased to function is the two houses have set up the rules so that a minority of either house can block all legislation. We are no longer a Representative Democracy. We are now ruled by political parties and their lobbyist masters. The majority should rule. The public deserves an up or down vote on all legislation.

Say what you want about Boehner. If it wasn’t for his shrewd politcal gerrymandering in 2010, the Republicans wouldn’t even have the House. If you’re a conservative (which i’m not), you should be thanking Boehner every day you wake up in a country without a permanently raised debt ceiling, another round of stimulus, an assault weapons ban, and all the other things that Democratic house and senate would bring. (By the way, all of those things would be good for the country.)
