Too bad she didn’t believe in applying the principles of St. Francs to Northern Ireland and the IRA situation. She made that situation worse.
Hardly, had Libya not got involved as a supplier, the 80’s would have been relatively peaceful in Northern Ireland – just relatively.
Thatcher inherited “The Troubles” (they began in 1609) and ratcheted down the problems throughout her tenure. Compared to the 60’s and 70’s things were much improved. Did she use a heavy hand on occasion – absofuckinglutely – on terrorist.
The net result was she set the stages for the ceasefire and eventual peace in the North. Had the “mollycoddling” shown by the British government prior to Thatcher continued, we’d still have bombs going off today.
Tell that to Bobby Sands. She didn’t ratchet anything down.
