“SPENDING IS GETTING OUT OF HAND AGAIN”
Less than a year-and-a-half after it ran out of cash and was forced to rely on a federal bailout to stay afloat, the S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is spending thousands of tax dollars on renovations to its executive board room.
Among the expenses? A custom made table rumored to have cost upwards of $15,000 and top-of-the-line leather swivel chairs for board members.
The agency’s main lobby has also been graced by a new 72-inch flat panel television screen.
“Spending is getting out of hand again,” a source inside the agency tells FITS.
Given the extent to which this agency completely lost control of its finances shortly after S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley took office, this sort of report is troubling. It’s yet another sign of SCDOT’s tone deafness in acknowledging the seriousness of its financial situation.
Seriously … this agency has stabilized its finances by halting all maintenance and resurfacing work ($200 million in deferred restructuring alone at last count). And now its leaders think they can spend tens of thousands of dollars on a swanky remodeling project?

This is really not surprising knowing the secretary of transportation.
Sounds like Elinor (bloody bitch) Kitzman and Marsha (the dwarf) Adams are in charge of DOT now. They spent a small fortune redecorating the Budget and Control Bd. Guess Elinor was trying to impress Sen. Peeler!
Oh well, it’s just taxpayer money and there is an unlimited supply.

Then you need to FOIA the costs. Capital improvements over $100,000 have to be approved by the Budget and Control Board. If no one holds bureaucrats accountable then they will keep doing things like this because they know that nobody cares.
There’s a term called “rational disinterest” that I’ve seen applied to this “nobody cares” situation.
Bascially, the theory is that because people inherently know voting doesn’t work and that most pols won’t really be held accountable for corruption they just “get on” with the daily lives and ignore the whole unfixable situation.
It’s an interesting theory and seems axiomatic.

He’s probably a decent fellow and had good intentions…but had to learn a hard lesson on the nature of gov’t. He’s probably no longer naive in that regard.
He’d be a better contributor to society back out in the market place instead of wasting his time with the foolish notion of “fixing” the gov’t mafia from the inside.
….. how much per hour does it cost for these “improvements”? Divide the number of hours actually used into the total cost – use one calendar year just for kicks. I don’t know how oftern the board meets or for how many hours. —- just curious!
