LEADING FISCAL CONSERVATIVE ALSO TAKES HIS NAME OUT OF THE RUNNING
The leading fiscal conservative in the S.C. General Assembly is urging Gov. Nikki Haley to name U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (above) as interim United States Senator.
S.C. Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) also took his name out of consideration for the seat – which is being vacated by U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint.
“We need someone in DC right now to replace Jim DeMint who has been immersed in the fiscal-cliff debate and could hit the ground running, and Rep. Mick Mulvaney is way more up-to-speed on that issue than I am,” Davis wrote on his Facebook page. “Going to DC would also require me to drop all of the bills I have been working on for the 2013 state legislative session, and I can’t in good conscience do that. Bottom line, I can make more of a difference right now in Columbia, working to make South Carolina the freest state in the nation, and Mick is better suited to fight the battle in DC. Please give him your support.”
Mulvaney’s office was not immediately available for comment.
Most believe that Haley will name U.S. Rep. Tim Scott to the post. In fact Scott appears to be mounting an aggressive campaign aimed at getting Haley to do just that. Also, sources tell FITS that Haley’s political consultant Jon Lerner is urging the governor to select Scott in an effort to give some upward mobility to her sagging poll numbers.
Haley has said that she will “appoint a person who has the same philosophy of government that Jim DeMint and I share.”
Wait … what?
Really, Nikki? Jim DeMint is a fiscal conservative God – an uncompromising, unapologetic supporter of freedom and free markets. Haley on the other hand is a big-spending crony capitalist of the worst sort – an opportunistic hypocrite who ran as a Tea Partier but shed those beliefs faster than a pair of her favorite black boy shorts.
Their philosophies on government couldn’t be more different, in other words …
Anyway, we maintain that it is highly unlikely Haley will name a true fiscal conservative to this post – but if she were to decide to do so, Mulvaney would make an excellent choice.

Davis might better move to another state and start over…His closeness to Sanford, and endorsement of Paul, have made him unfit for SC….

Mulvaney would be a disaster.
When he was (briefly) a state representative and (briefly) a state senator, he introduced NO legislation. That’s not no legislation that passed. NO legislation. In other words, in the job description for daily tasks, he produced NOTHING of substance. Co-sponsor on a couple of things. In other words, let others do the heavy lifting and created no real role for him to be quizzed on.
He has in the U.S. House proposed some stuff, but I haven’t read one release of a Mulvaney bill that was approved. If something passed the house, the stuff he has proposed did NOT pass the Senatoe or get singed into law.
In other words, he’s started doing the basics of his job, but he has, in four years of state legislative work DONE jack shit and almost two years of federal legislative work ACCOMPLISHED jack shit. He just espouses the positions so fondly thought of on this website, but he hasn’t made any of them come to pass.
This makes him the perfect replacement for DeMint.
Who gives a SHIT what some state senator has to say. Outside of political hounds and his people in his own district, no one knows who this guy is.
Davis must not like Mulvaney.
