Seriously, David Wilkins would seem to be a good fit if he wanted the job. Given his age, I don’t know whether he would be inclined to run for a full term, so maybe that would open it up to Gov. Haley running herself in 2014. Should be interesting to watch regardless of what happens.

This is Nikki’s chance to be the first Indian-American US Senator. Of course, she’s going to appoint herself – if she can get General McConnell to promise, promise, promise to appoint her if she resigns from office. This is her only chance to be a US Senator and his only chance to be the Governor.

Have no use for McConnell.
If given the choice of pissing on a flame engulfed McConnell or drinking a bucket of warm spit, the spit looks good.
However when it comes to “political” dealings there is nothing on record to classify him as a weasel.
In fact if the Gypsy Queen can cut a deal with McConnell, the cost will be high. McConnell’s list of “you will do this” and “you will not do that” will fill more than one stocking.
In the end McConnell will become Governor, which outside of another Civil War is perhaps the one thing he covets the most and it will make the Gypsy Queen a United States Senator just one step away from becoming Vice POTUS and a heart beat away from becoming POTUS.

If the Governor appoints herself (she has to do a little two-step with the LG here to accomplish that), she scores a twofer: (a) launches herself on the national stage as new member of the Class of 2012, just as a new Congress convenes and the new Presidential term begins; and (b) exits Columbia like the Millenium Falcon jumping into hyperspace to escape the Star Destroyers.
Appointing a Congressman to the vacancy, of course, would trigger a special election with a full-blown election cycle, primaries, etc…

Jim DeMint and and the Pee Party’s non-knowledge of the concepts & construction of the Constitution and their corruption of the conservative cause is the moral equivalent of the race-baiting of an earier era. It is time for Demint to join the dung pile with Coleman Blease and “Cotton Ed” Smith.
If she has any sense she’ll name Jim Clyburn to that seat. It’ll get him out of the House and he’ll never win re-election.
