AGENCY’S LEADERSHIP ALSO FURIOUS AT FITS FOR COVERAGE
As many as 70 employees at the scandal-scarred S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW) are getting a jump start on the holidays – participating in a two-day taxpayer-funded conference in Charleston, S.C. this weekend.
What’s the conference about?
“The purpose of the meeting (is) to make sure DEW staff are doing their jobs and (unemployment insurance) staff are doing what they are required to do,” one of our sources at the agency says.
Hmmmm … like doing the bidding of powerful lawmakers?
Government-funded vacations are obviously nothing new for this agency (click here and here to see what we mean). Nor is incompetence. In fact since becoming part of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s cabinet, SCDEW has been one disaster after another – putting the governor’s push for “expanded executive accountability” under an unflattering microscope.
As we’ve reported on numerous previous occasions, one out of every five dollars in unemployment benefits doled out in South Carolina is awarded erroneously – the eighth-highest percentage in the nation. That’s obviously a huge problem in a state with one of the nation’s highest unemployment rates. Yet despite a state audit, federal warning and a legislative study attesting to its abysmal performance, SCDEW continues to flaunt its ineptitude – a cost that is being passed on to to South Carolina businesses and taxpayers.
SCDEW’s leadership is also reportedly furious with FITS for our efforts to expose its ongoing corruption and incompetence.
According to an email from one of our moles, “DEW has a rule that employees will NOT forward emails to Fitsnews or they will be fired.”
In fact, our source says that “emails are starting to become a thing of the past with DEW” given how quickly the missives wind up in our possession – and in the possession of lawmakers who are investigating the agency.
“They hate Fits,” one agency employee says, adding that our website has “really upset the general,” referring to SCDEW director General Abraham Turner.
Really? Well Turner’s chronic mismanagement of this agency – and the hundreds of millions of tax dollars it’s wasting – has “really upset” us.

I served under Gen. Turner; for what its worth, he’s a good man..May have nothing to do with story at hand, but thought Id add it.
Ditto, Worked for him for a while at Jackson – he was a no bullshit get the job done leader. This may be a case of a the wrong guy for the job though.
Not a mole in the agency, but a chigger
Keep rocking’ FITS!
General Turd just needs to learn how to do his job.
They needs to hire Miz Lilly!

I wonder if anyone is dumb enough to forward from their work account.
Gee, I wonder how safe socials are DEW.
A two day conference for the purpose of making sure DEW staff are doing their jobs? Isn’t doing your job, like, a basic requirement of getting a paycheck?
Busy at work. Pass the fried chicken and biscuits, please. Sorry, back at work now. Pass the salt. Sorry, back at work now. Pass the cole slaw…
Let’s hope the good general rides his motorcycle to the event.
I’m sure he’s probably just a fair weather rider, but one can hope.
“see if they are doing their job”
isn’t that supposed to be somebodies job while the peeps are at work.
Isn’t that called a supervisor ?
We shall call it SC Dew Dew.
That’s pretty funny(and accurate). Kudos to you.
I bet in the the dark all you see is eyes and teeth.
Be nice, he is attractive in a primative way.
Laughter here. That’s a good one. Thanks.
As an ex DEW employee (left of my own volition – applied for a job the day I met the general. It only takes about 10 seconds to figure out what an ego driven SOB he is), it is a shame that the good employees have to tolerate this man. When I moved to DEW, my decision was based largely on the exceptionally talented people I met there. DEW was lucky to have some of these employees because their competence and knowledge are in large demand in the private sector. Some of them have since left or been fired. To the person who served with him, (not the “Colonel”, I am not sure but I would bet that moniker belongs to none other than Da General’s chief of staff, Joe Lowder, which begs the question, is writing positive comments on this site an official part of his job?), I do not doubt he was fine in the military but a state agency is NOT the military. Personally, I think one of the Da General’s biggest weaknesses is his inability to listen to the experts he is surrounded by (or was until they all left). He wants everything done the minute it pops into his head no matter how ill advised or asinine and if those who know better explain to him why it’s not a good idea, he accuses them of making excuses. This might be fine in a battle situation but state agencies generally have the time to make informed and intelligent decisions. Only an arrogant fool ignores out of hand the opinion of specialists. The wise leader will see these people for what they are and value what they have to offer.
Well, it just doesn’t seem to be getting better. That starts at the top and works it’s way down. General, maybe this is not what you were meant to do. Career enders can be a bitch.
……. think back to General Westmoreland’s campaign for Governor – same story. I believe it was a joke that he slept in camo pajamas.
Most every government entity in America does this folks and at our expense.

Mole Tip:
Screen capture the email by using a portable capture tool like AnalogX Capture run from USB key. No email traffic ensues and no software is loaded on the computer.

Take the .jpg home, use MS Paint or whatever to obliterate identifying info, then email the picture to FITS. Alternate solution, print to paper, take paper home, scan it, email to FITS.
HAS ANYONE CHECKED THE GENERAL’S FRIENDS THAT HAVE BEEN HIRED AT DEW AND THEIR SALARIES SINCE HE HAS ARRIVED? BUT THEY STILL SAY THEY ARE RIFFING PEOPLE THEN REPLACING THEM WITH HIS FRIENDS OF COLOR THAT HAVEN’T A CLUE HOW TO HELP PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA FIND A JOB. NOT TO MENTION AT A HIGHER PAY .
