… BUT PETITION VICTOR MUST DO MORE THAN JUST SUPPORT GOOD POLICY

This website hasn’t always been S.C. Sen.-elect Katrina Shealy’s biggest fan … however it was painfully obvious to us that the Lexington County insurance agent would (and now will) represent a much more taxpayer friendly vote than longtime “Republican in Name Only” Jakie Knotts.

Accordingly we endorsed Shealy in her bid for S.C. Senate District 23 … although we wondered whether she would emerge as the sort of aggressive advocate for free markets and individual freedoms that our state so desperately needs.

So far?  So good …

In an interview with The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper, Shealy pledged her support for universal parental choice legislation (which Knotts’ consistently opposed) as well as legislation that would make concealed weapons’ permits optional.

Those are both excellent policy positions … in addition to representing a little chin music for the state’s most liberal mainstream media outlet (which has consistently opposed parental choice).

“I am what I say I am,” Shealy told FITS recently, and so far she’s proving that Popeye-esque self-assessment to be accurate.

In addition to these positions, Shealy is already on the record in support of a taxpayer rebate fund for surplus revenues and so-called government “savings” (which are currently being spent elsewhere in government).  And based on that view, we have every confidence that she will be voting alongside fiscal conservatives like Tom Davis and Kevin Bryant when it comes to reducing the size of South Carolina’s overgrown state budget and supporting the push for individual income tax relief.

All of this is very, very good – particularly given the fiscal liberal Shealy is replacing in the Senate – but we are envisioning a much bigger role for her.

As a petition candidate who defeated a “Republican” nominee, Shealy is in a unique position to advocate for pro-free market, pro-liberty reforms.  Simply put, she is beholden to no establishment – only the constituents who elected her.  That means she can be much more aggressive than most lawmakers when it comes to calling out “Republicans” at the S.C. State House who aren’t living up to the principles their party claims to stand for.

If South Carolina is ever to move past the big government mentality that produced its recent “Lost Decade,” then it will take more than politicians who are willing to vote for the right things – it will take leaders who aren’t afraid to to call people out for supporting the wrong things (campaigning against them if necessary).

We’re sincerely hoping that Shealy is one of those leaders …

I hope she does something significant with regards to removing the numerous unnecessary restrictions on where CWP holders can legally carry. She voiced support of the Rob Me signs but I hope she re-thinks that one. Those signs are unnecessary. State laws already on the books pertaining to trespassing will quite adequately protect rights of business and property owners without giving statutory legitimacy to those dumb signs.

I don’t think CWPs should be optional. They force a more stringent background check, and the class you have to take makes sure you know the laws, and makes sure you can hit the broad side of a barn. That being said, I totally agree, if you have the permit you should have very little restriction regarding where you can take it.

Background check and classes are good thing and I carry a gun. We have a lot of nuts out there and that’s what I’m trying to protect myself against. Just letting anyone carry a gun will return us to the wild west! Of course, that might make it pretty interesting, I have no problem with shootouts but I believe the general public won’t be down with this idea.

I’m thrilled that this lady beat Jake Knotts — next to Glenn McConnell, the most corrupt senator in the state. Knotts takes with him, out of the Gressette Building, all the flies, stale potato chips, candy bar wrappers, used kleenex, and Field & Stream magazines that kept him busy for years. Bibi, porky !!!

I spoke with one of Jakie’s employees today in Lexington. She was as Thrilled as you are that Jakie is gone. She was laughing that others at the State House are looking out for Jakie’s staff knowing what they have been through the last few years. She was also wondering who Jean Toal is going to get to be her Ace on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Hmmm. I didn’t know how to respond to that one.

Glenn McConnell is not a senator. He’s your Lt. Gov. Try to keep up.

Didn’t Jakie say he was going to “pull out a smoking gun” on Shealy? If he did, I didn’t see it.

A widely rumored affair between her and an upstate Senator known for chasing skirt or strange leg. Has a reputation for Peelering his pants off at any and all opportunities.
Heard this directly from his brother amoung others. She obviously has poor taste.
Hope she does not cowtow to Haley too much, will be her undoing.

lol You’re done old lex. Meet a real public servant in Katrina. She wants this job for the right reasons and is not a self serving porker like jake, jimmy, danny, randy and the rest of old lexington fat cats. One down bout a dozen to go. They should be a bit easier with the doj indictments on the way.

old lex, you and Jakie can maybe share a room, over at Providence Hosp., when you both have strokes, bypass surgery(again), or whatever else happens when your big, fat asses continue to fall apart!

Jake beat Katrina handily in the 2008 primary run off, 1,900± (15 points). This year, as a petition candidate she beat him piss limber in the general election by 2,400± (7 points). Jake got an awful lot of good people unhappy by feathering his nest and taking care of his little flock of family and politicos. That’s what happens when someone like him gets to feeling he is better than everyone else and above the law. Granted he isn’t wearing bracelets and living in a state paid one room apartment but maybe karma will finish what Katrina started. I don’t expect her to agree with me 100% (I live in her district) of the time but she will sure be a lot better than Jake.

So, Katrina Shealy’s solution to the myriad of problems facing SC is more private schools and more hand guns. What perception! What imagination! You ever wonder why this state always leads the nation in the bad categories and is last in the good ones? You should fit right in.

Is fat ass red-neck Jake taking his red-neck, no-class daughter with him? How about his puppet magistrates? The #1 and #2 and Batesburg magistrates are controlled by Jake and Jimmy.

There will be a few new magistrates in Lexington County once their term ends. Goodbye Morgan and Jeffcoat. Also there will a new Chief Magistrate come January 2013. Jean “The Troll” Toal can try to interfere with who she wants as the Chief Magistrate but it will be futual. Change has come to Lexington County with Jakie out of office and possibly of indictments coming his way. All Lexington County Magistrates needs to be very concern if they had the support of Jakie Knotts. Jean Troll knows that she has done so much of Jakie’s dirty work.

Money and fear could not buy Lexington County this time. Boss Hogg outspent Ms. Shealy 16 to one and continued right up til the bitter end to attempt to bully voters. Word is the he was ask to leave several polling places because of his behavior.

As Senator, I would ask that Ms. Shealy consider introducing legislation which will prevent the kind of primary fiasco we had this year from ever happening again.

As the only woman in the Senate, she will be representing women across the state. GO KATRINA!

I was delighted to see that Katrina Shealy beat Jake Knotts. That being said, I am somewhat concerned that Katrina Shealy will be a cronie of Nikki Haley’s. I really hope Katrina Shealy will distance herself from Nikki Haley and will do what is right for not only the citizens of Lexington County but South Carolina.

SC has been behind the times. CWP in SC should be allowed in businesses that sale and serve alcohol for on site consumption. I have never drank. But, yet I cannot patron a restaurant like O’Charles, apple bees, red lobster. olive garden and the list goes on because of that. The CWP law says [already] I cannot carry if I consume alcohol. Also, SC should allow for CWP holder to carry at school functions and on grounds. SC should also adopt a open carry law like many other states. I believe if you can legally buy a gun you should be able to carry such gun. More guns in the hands of law abiding citizens is what we need. The criminals dont worry about the laws and they get their training from video games. Time for law abiding citizens to stand up. The reason jake Knotts lost is for sitting on a CWP bill that would have given a few of what I have written.
