Sadly, type 2 diabetes which is what you are statistically getting at in this article is nearly always a symptom of lifestyle and is very preventable, whereas type 1 is not. Unfortunately few doctors are versed in lifestyle coaching, meaning they are only taught in school how to treat symptomatically.
Filling the page with warnings of amputations is a symptom of a long list of poor choices. I have met very few people that heed such warnings, especially coming from a medical community that really has no clue or follows it’s own advice.
I wish I had type 2.

Any southerner who is 40 and older reading this knows the creeping unspoken thought of how scared we are that a lifetime of sweet tea, pound cake, mint julips and pecan pie will be to blame for the type 2 if we get it, and what a battle it is inside to give up those delights.
