… SHARP SHOOTIN’, TEX

This website doesn’t make a habit of trolling the Facebook pages of South Carolina government bureaucracies, but we may soon make an exception when it comes to the Facebook page for the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).

Hell, we may even join the 826 people who “like” the agency … (perish the thought).

What’s got our radar up?  Well, while our founding editor was vacationing on Pawleys Island, S.C. earlier this month SCDHEC director Catherine Templeton – whose name is being more frequently mentioned in connection with a 2018 statewide bid – paid a visit to the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy.

Her official reason for attending?  Honoring a law enforcement officer at her agency who was receiving a statewide award.

Afterward, however, Templeton – a concealed weapons permit (CWP) holder – slipped off her heels and paid a visit to the firing range.

How’d she shoot?

Not bad, not bad at all …

“She wasn’t even using her own gun,” one of the law enforcement sources who witnessed Templeton’s arms-bearing noted.

Of course the weapons on the shooting range aren’t the only “guns” on display at SCDHEC’s Facebook page … another image (from a dirt-shoveling ceremony at a Midlands area nature park) offers a glimpse at another weapon in Templeton’s arsenal.

Check it out, people (fifth from left ) …

Yeah …

Somebody call Ron Burgundy … because you just got two tickets to the “gun show.”

This website, as longtime readers (and the subject of this post) no doubt recall, was merciless in its criticism of Templeton during her stint as director of the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (SCLLR).  We also opposed her bid to lead SCDHEC – disappointed by her prior record as well as her decision to “plead the fifth” regarding Gov. Nikki Haley’s controversial appeasement of Georgia’s port expansion plans.

You know … the “Savannah River Sellout.”

In recent years, though, Templeton has won us over … not because she’s hot (although that helps), but because unlike almost every other powerbroker in state government, she’s consistently looked for ways to cut – not expand – her bureaucracy.

If she can bring that sort of perspective to bear on a statewide bid – in contrast to Haley’s hypocritical expansion of government – Templeton will continue to find a receptive audience in us.

Oh, and let’s hope that in addition to being a better shot than Haley, Templeton handles Second Amendment issues better than the governor.

Common Willie. Did you forget that she failed for months to notify folks that they were exposed to T. B.? We still don’t know how many people died and/or got sick. Lawyers making health care decisions are dangerous. And unhealthy.

But, but, she’s firing a gun. And she’s moderately attractive. That’ll get her 55% of the vote right off from horny Republicans, 2nd Amendment worshippers and, of course, Richard Eckstrom.

MODERATELY attractive, indeed. I liked her better when she was not so buff. Had a li’l cushion for the pushin’.

When Sic said the next shot showed her “guns”, too, I was thinkin’ boobs. No such luck, though, in the brave new world of sanitized FITS.

Yeah, but shit like that doesn’t matter. Unless it’s specifically kids that died and it’s real clear Haley helped the Haley-ho-bud in question to cook the books. Plus Koller never fired a gun, that I know of. So screw a bunch of people with TB, that’s just a boring-ass old disease from ancient history, like polio. Right?

Your referenced article does NOT even mention the 2-month plus gap between when DHEC knew about the outbreak and when they notified those possibly infected. That was TOTALLY DHECs problem.

And the managers who handled those first two months were fired. It was the school’s responsibility to notify parents other than those involved in the contact investigation. DHEC followed CDC guidelines in conducting a contact investigation. If it had shouted TB there would have been needless wide spread panic.

Standing by the target, she looks like your standard issue15 year old kid’s mom from HIlton Head to me; certainly not a MILF in that picture………………………….

I’ve seen better looking MILF’s at the local PTA meeting than her.

I remember this one…………………….Wearing glasses to boot!!!!!

That was almost 20 years ago!!!!

What does shooting a target have to do with DHEC?

Better yet, why is this shit so successful? And not in this state, but across the entire country? Does posing with a gun or some target with bullet holes in it really give that many gun nuts boners? Does anyone really think Haley’s done anything remarkable for gun rights after her stupid photo ops and bragging about having a CWP?

I find it sad that someone gets excited over a politician or public employee just because they are in a photo holding a gun. “ERRGH, YEAAAHHH, MURIKA! FREEDUM! BALD EGULS! GUUUUUUUNNNNNNSSSSS!” What a joke. All I want is a more relaxed attitude towards legal concealed carry and all I see are a bunch of morons getting duped by people who know how to rile up the rubes among us and won’t accomplish jack shit for them.

She’s looking tasty. Btw, it looks like the range is setup for something less than 15 yards(though it’s hard to get perspective from a photo)…so while it’s a good pattern I would expect it from anyone competent at that range…

Sadly, a LOT of LE agencies are dumbing down their courses of fire to the point they don’t shoot beyond 15 yards, anymore. They justify this based on statistics which show most gunfights occur at toe to toe distances. Not shooting beyond 15 yds is great if you happen to only be involved in a gunfight at that distance or less, but what happens if you find yourself engaging a bad guy(s) at 25 or 30 yards? Heck, even if you find yourself engaging a bad guy at 15 yards, and you know you can hit the target at 25 yards, your confidence in your ability to do what needs doing will be greater.

I remember departments that had 50 yard targets as part of their qualification back in the 70’s and early 80’s. In 2050, I imagine they will be qualifying at a maximum distance of 10 or maybe 7 yards. :-(

Yep,

Paper targets at 15 yards and aiming at mid center is for pussies.

Look at the size of that silhouette for crying out loud

I beat a shitload of Richland County SWAT members team last week at Ft. Jackson and I hadn’t shot since last September.due to all the dickheads hoarding ammo.

I agree, just another neo-con female scoring points for the right wingnuts

I don’t have a hard time believing you regarding your performance at Ft Jackson, Sparklecity! Do you remember some years back when those guys went to arrest a local attorney for murdering the manager of a local strip club? As I recall, they fired dozens of rounds and the best they did was hit him in the arm. I do recall feeling embarrassed for them when reading about it.

“consistently looking for ways to cut not expand her bureaucracy” WHERE HAS SHE BEEN ALL MY LIFE ???? A Politician that seeks to reduce her “authority” not take more and more of our rights, property, money, freedom. I’ll have to see it to believe it. Can she be cloned ? My whole adult life I have watched as govt. has taken more and more from US , it would be refreshing for a reversal.

Ms. Templeton is soon to follow the rest of Haley’s poor personnel choices. Investigations and audits currently under way will no doubt shine a sordid light on her tenure at DHEC and could possibly lead to future legal actions. Good aim won’t matter.

Let’s hope the investigations actually stick like they most certainly should. Unfortunately, they probably won’t with this bought-and-paid-for administration (and shills like Fits) and our ignorant populace. This so-called article is meaningless and serves as nothing but another photo op for Princess T to show off her massive weight loss (congrats, you can now look semi-legitimate in the failed “no junk food if you are on SNAP” initiative you tried to promote with Koller) and to appear as the Guns ‘R Us poster child for a future gubernatorial run or judgeship “appointment.” (And make no mistake, I am pro-gun ownership.) This kind of thing is right out of the Haley playbook, however, and is so sophomoric and pathetic to anyone who pays attention to what’s going on with our state government agencies that it is simply laughable. So what she “lost” a bunch of excess pounds with her arsenal of family money? So what she can shoot a target (and show me the actual video of her firing the gun on that one)? So what she promotes herself on the FB page for a state agency? (What a waste of tax dollars!) What is she actually doing that is of true merit? And for the millionth time, the argument that she’s cut bureaucracy is bull. She has simply switched semi-high paid, more relevantly educated/deserving “regular” people with extensive experience and some semblance of competence with a bunch of uber (sorry, no umlaut on here) overpaid lackeys. Don’t take my word for it, look at the folks she brings in with her to each state agency she “manages,” look at their experience, look at their relevant training/education, look at their ages, look at their political connections, and then look at their salaries. Just because you have a law degree or are her best buddy doesn’t mean you are an expert at anything, nor does it mean you can effectively manage a state government agency that is tasked with a myriad of very technical, complex responsibilities. Nor does it mean you will actually SHOW UP FOR WORK and toil in the trenches with your fellow staff or care about them or the well-being/viability of the agency. So go ahead and like her pics on the heavily edited DHEC FB page, ’cause God knows, what she should be doing is once again promoting HERSELF to the general public instead of actually making positive, smart and informed public health and environmental changes for the benefit of ALL our citizens. Someone please put us out of our misery and just give her and Haley both ambassadorships to anywhere else. These two megalomaniacs seemingly get no actual fulfillment out of their regular lives and instead thrive mainly on dominating others. This does not equate to true leadership. Now, I await the Princess’s response . . .

“a state government agency that is tasked with a myriad of very technical, complex responsibilities.”
Most permitting decisions and oversights aren’t all that terribly complex and many are botched even if fairly simple. Look at that failed ‘feces farm’ out at Pelion. Templeton inherited a lot of mediocre to poor managers. She really hasn’t replaced enough of them.
