“Nor does she mention the billions of dollars spent on taxpayer-funded “economic development” subsidies which often fail to produce a return on investment.”
What is “often?” You link to one failed economic development story from two years ago in which $200,000 was “lost” in an economic development deal. In terms of the money spent on economic development, $200k really isn’t a whole lot. Furthermore, you fail to include the quote from the Department of Commerce that says “the state has the ability to seek reimbursement of grants from companies that do not fulfill their commitments.” If you have ever dealt with a governmental entity, you will quickly learn they have an extraordinary talent for extracting money from people who don’t want to pay.
When did Columbia get their ten million dollars back on the airline deal ten years (or so) ago? I missed that story.
I’m pretty sure that deal was Columbia only got the money if the airline actually came to Columbia.
Haley just needs a few more
vacationstrips to promote our state, is all. Next up should be the Bahamas, to, uh, impress companies in the tourism industry, or something.Hey, Hey! Don’t knock it, DHEC did a study and going straight from someplace warm like the Bahamas or South Florida to someplace cold like Wisconsin or Michigan can cause heart attacks and strokes. Scheduling people a lay over in South Carolina during the winter months can alleviate that possibility and actually save lives. So it’s a win, win, win for SC, Florida and the Northern states and we only have to cough up 1.5 Billion dollars, such a deal!!!!
Interesting. How would a chick like that think she could get a job flasing 2P1S sign? Oh, I get it now. She needs a different outfit for that kind of work.
