The sixth-ranked University of South Carolina football team heads into Athens, Georgia this weekend looking to extend a three-game winning streak over their SEC East rivals, the No. 11/12 Georgia Bulldogs.
Prior to the current three-game steak Georgia had never lost more than two games in a row to the Gamecocks. The last time that happened? The brief Gamecock football “mini-renaissance” of 2000-01 under Lou Holtz – which included a thrilling 14-9 victory over the Bulldogs in Athens.
That game was clinched in the fourth quarter when USC quarterback Phil Petty hit wide receiver Brian Scott on a 16-yard touchdown pass (above).
Last year South Carolina obliterated fifth-ranked Georgia 35-7 at home, although the Bulldogs still enjoy a decisive 46-17-2 advantage in the series, which dates back to 1894.

USC defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said the Gamecocks had “gotten good practices in” this week and were ready to do battle against one of the nation’s most potent offenses, led by senior All-SEC quarterback Aaron Murray.
Ward did say star defensive back Victor Hampton – who was injured in the Gamecocks’ season-opening win over North Carolina – would not start on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
Our founding editor Will Folks (a.k.a. Sic Willie) – who will be traveling to Athens for the game – will reveal his South Carolina-Georgia #FITSPick early Saturday. He is 1-1 picking winners this season (and 1-1 against the Vegas point spread).
Georgia enters the game as a three-point favorite …

Erin Murray is 0-1 against Top 15 opponents and 3-11 against all ranked opponents. He chokes in big games, and will choke again tomorrow.
Will Clowney be puking his guts out on the sidelines? Do you think he got into shape within the last week?
No and yes.
Guess we learned you went 0-2 on that test.
As I recall he was in pretty fair shape last November up in Pickens.
and this will matter in Athens on Saturday how?
It only takes two weeks to get out of shape, why are you talking about 10 months ago when you should be concerned with what shape he’s in today?
Last week it was his tummy, this week it was a hurt foot, next week against Vanderbilt will it be hemorrhoids or a brain aneurysm?
The only thing that got choked yesterday was a bunch of chickens! GO DAWGS, SIC’EM!
Fun fact: No coach has ever beaten Georgia 16 times during a career, but if USC-Original wins this weekend, Spurrier will become the first.
WOW! Under Spurrier Carl’s Jr has beaten UGA 16 times. I guess that is similar to the credit Carl’s Jr claims for the SEC championships Spurrier won at Florida.
Dumb statistic, because how many coaches have even coached against Georgia 16 or more times?
Because Clowney!
Georgia is Jim’s Alma Mater,so I am conflicted. He will not be wearing underwear,though.Cocks.
