Sergeant Daniel Greene
Sergeant Daniel Greene works with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to road patrol on June 7, 2021. He was the the first law enforcement officer to arrive on the scene at 4147 Moselle Road and was called to the stand by the State on Thursday, January 26, 2023 to testify in the double homicide trial of accused killer Alex Murdaugh.
In his testimony, Greene told the jury that Murdaugh when he arrived one of his first comments were to claim that his son – Paul Murdaugh – was the victim of vigilante justice.
“This is a long story my son was in a boat crash,” Murdaugh told Greene. “I know that’s what (this) is.”
Murdaugh offered this same unsolicited theory in the full, unredacted 9-1-1 call that was played in court for the first time.
Murdaugh also encouraged Greene to check his cell phone to verify his recent movements.
Greene’s body worn camera footage from that night was admitted into evidence and played for the jury to hear. In the audio of the footage, Alex Murdaugh was heard answering questions regarding Maggie and Paul.
