Creighton Waters
Samuel “Creighton” Waters is the chief attorney for the South Carolina state grand jury and is leading the State’s prosecution against Alex Murdaugh. Waters, 52, has worked for the Attorney General’s Office for more than 24 years.
Waters is well-known for his successful prosecution of corrupt law enforcement officers, as well as school district and county officials. He recently successfully obtained indictments on more than 100 suspects following investigations into drug operations in the state prison system. This drug-trafficking organization mostly operated out of the South Carolina Department of Corrections, using contraband items, particularly cellular phones from within the prison system.
Waters has also worked with other prosecutors on major white-collar cases and his knowledge in this area has been utilized heavily by the Attorney General’s office as they have focused on the enormous task of unraveling Murdaugh’s alleged web of financial and drug-related crimes.
