Amy Feinstein: Thomas Ravenel ‘Picked On The Wrong Girl’

Navy veteran mixes it up with former reality television star …

by AMY FEINSTEIN || Former reality star Thomas Ravenel has done his fair share of sparring on Twitter, but most of his targets tend to retreat after the exchanges take a nasty turn. Not Navy veteran Nicole Buckner – whose sons also served in the U.S. Armed Forces. She made the decision to stand up for herself against Ravenel – taking the disgraced ex-politician to task for his barbs.

Buckner, who admits she’s a fan of Bravo TV’s Southern Charm, said she was scrolling through Twitter from her home in Orville, California when she stumbled upon Ravenel’s latest denial regarding his cocaine charges – along with statements rationalizing his recent guilty plea to assault charges.

“Facts: I never sold cocaine,” Ravenel tweeted. “I bought some and shared it and they called that a conspiracy to distribute. I got a worse sentence than the dealer. I went to rehab and the doctors after evaluating me asked why I was there (because) I didn’t do coke, or at least they saw no abuse.”

He added there were no sexual assault charges ever filed against him (ahem), but rather a sexual assualt was merely alleged by the Ravenel family’s former nanny, Dawn Ledwell.

Ironically, Ledwell and Ravenel are now on the same side of a larger legal battle.

Buckner, whose Twitter page states that she is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, said she was reading Ravenel’s exchange with several Twitter users and felt the need to weigh in – telling the former politician that just because he could afford skilled representation didn’t make him innocent. She said it was his sense of entitlement that set her off.

“Just because you can afford to buy your way out of trouble, doesn’t mean it
DIDN’T HAPPEN,” Buckner wrote. “Once, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, but MORE THAN TWICE?? WHERE THERE’S SMOKE THERE’S FIRE.”

Buckner assumed she was just another fan of the show weighing in on Ravenel’s latest Twitter post, but apparently something about her response caught his eye. He fired back by insulting her intelligence and her station in life, saying that she hadn’t been “blessed with even a mediocre brain.”

At that point, it was on, with Buckner querying as to why the former Bravo star was resorting to name calling. She then mocked him by asking about his “MENSA status.”

“Maybe I am stupid, but I don’t have a CRIMINAL RECORD,” she shot back.

Ravenel retorted by saying that Buckner was not a target in the same way he is because she hadn’t accomplished anything. She said this was particularly insulting considering she served in the Navy for seven-and-a-half years (seeing combat in Operation Desert Storm) and had also raised two sons who served their country.

“I’m a VETERAN OF A FOREIGN WAR & STILL HOLD A TOP CLEARANCE from the NSA,” Buckner wrote. “Assumptions do NOTHING BUT MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE THE ASSHOLE THAT YOU ARE. #narcissist #dumbass #doyourresearch #gonavy”

Ravenel didn’t bow out of the Twitter beef, though – telling Buckner he was not going to block her since she was the perfect exhibit of the “intolerant left.”

The war of words eventually ended with Buckner telling Ravenel he took on the wrong girl, and asking if he had ever done anything with his life that made a real difference. She took umbrage with the “intolerant left” comment, saying she is someone who put her life on the line so he would be free to spout “moronic garbage propaganda!”

She ended her rant by asking Ravenel to block her, a request he obliged.

In an interview with FITSNews, Buckner expressed frustration that people like Ravenel, who have never served their country, feel comfortable name-calling when they don’t share all of the same political philosophies.
