Murder Scene In Allendale County SC Prompts State Investigation, National Attention

Victim reportedly a transgender male …

Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are assisting local law enforcement as they investigate a murder scene in rural Allendale, S.C.

According to our law enforcement sources, the body of a 24-year-old black male dressed in women’s clothing was discovered on Sunday afternoon (August 4, 2019) just off of Highway 278.

The victim – whose name has yet to be released – is reportedly known in the local community as a transgender, which has prompted inquiries about the crime from national lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender (LBGT) organizations.

According to our sources, the victim was discovered on Sunday by a passerby slumped over the steering wheel of a parked vehicle with an apparent gun shot wound to the head. Further investigation revealed he had sustained at least three gun shot wounds to the head.

As of this writing, our local law enforcement sources tell us there is some early progress in the investigation as it relates to a potential suspect – however, it is not clear whether police have identified any possible motive in connection with the crime.

We suspect motive will be assigned particular scrutiny in this case …

SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson would only say her agency had been requested to assist on a murder investigation in Allendale County. That request was made by the Allendale County sheriff’s office, she told us.

Richardson declined to provide further details, referring to the inquiry as “ongoing.”
