Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested a Woodruff, S.C. man this week in connection with “fraudulently altering an insurance document to obtain employment,” according to a news release from the agency.
Joseph D. Lopresti, 37, was charged with forgery after allegedly “unlawfully, willfully and knowingly” altering coverage dates on a certificate of liability insurance back in September of 2012.
Lopresti then “used the altered document to obtain work as a contractor,” according to a probable cause affidavit accompanying the warrant for his arrest.
SLED investigated the case at the request of S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson’s office – which will prosecute the case. Upon arrest, Lopresti was booked at the Spartanburg County detention center.
Here is the SLED news release and accompanying arrest warrant …

As with any individual accused of any crime, Lopresti should be considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system – or until such a time as he may issue a pleading in connection with any of the charges filed against him.
