A former deputy with the Chesterfield County, South Carolina sheriff’s office is under investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), multiple sources have confirmed to this news site.
SLED declined to release the name of the former deputy at the heart of the inquiry. Nor would our agency sources discuss any details related to the probe.
“Our work is ongoing,” one SLED source told us.
Sources in Chesterfield County, however, have identified the former deputy as Brian Campbell. According to them, the inquiry involves some form of alleged misconduct in office. Campbell has already resigned his post, and the investigation into his alleged misconduct should be completed “soon,” our sources say.
[su_dominion_video_scb]SLED was called in to investigate Campbell at the request of the sheriff’s office, which would have had an obvious conflict of interest in the case.
Chesterfield will welcome a new sheriff in January after James “JD” Dixon soundly defeated incumbent Jay Brooks in a Democratic primary election back in June. Dixon faces no Republican opposition on the November ballot.
