An emergency meeting of Greenville County, South Carolina’s government has been called this week to address the mushrooming scandal surrounding embattled sheriff Will Lewis.
The meeting – scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EDT tomorrow (Tuesday, October 24) – will included an extended executive session discussion for county council members to receive “legal advice” related to “adversary situations involving the assertion … of a claim relating to the Sheriff’s Office.”
Not only that, we’re told county council will take up a motion calling for a forensic audit of Lewis’ agency.
“The forensic audit is going to be interesting,” a source familiar with the situation told us, speculating that Lewis is “gonna get gigged for misuse of funds.”
We’ve been provided with several examples of alleged misappropriation of public money, which we are currently investigating.
The audit comes as Lewis is already reeling from the “claim” against him.
On August 31, this news site published an exclusive report on allegations made against Lewis by a former female subordinate. His accuser, 23-year-old Savannah Nabors, claims Lewis drugged and raped her in a Charlotte, North Carolina hotel room on March 7 of this year.
“He’s a church-going man, strong in his faith,” the former sheriff’s office employee wrote in a since-deleted blog post. “You think he could never be capable of something so manipulative, so hypocritical. The man that you think is legal, ethical, and moral is anything but those things.”
Nabors’ claims have prompted an investigation by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) – news of which was also exclusively reported by this news site.
That investigation is ongoing …
Last week, we broke the biggest news yet related to this case – the filing of Nabors’ bombshell lawsuit against Lewis.
In her pleading, Nabors offered details regarding the alleged sexual assault – which she claimed took place during a business trip. Not only that, she provided numerous audio recordings in which Lewis discussed his plans to defraud Greenville County taxpayers in the furtherance of an affair with her.
That revelation was enough for us …
Last Friday, we called on Lewis to step down – arguing he has “lost the trust and the respect of (his) community … and (his) officers.”
