Hurricane Irma: Donald Trump Approves SC Disaster Declaration

U.S. president Donald Trump has approved the Palmetto State’s emergency declaration, issuing an order on Thursday afternon confirming that “an emergency exists in the State of South Carolina.”

Based on the current forecast track of monster Hurricane Irma, he’ll get no argument from us …

Trump’s order allows for the federal government “to supplement State, tribal, and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from Hurricane Irma beginning on September 6, 2017” and continuing thereafter.

Trump’s declaration tasks the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with the coordination of all disaster relief efforts in the Palmetto State, allowing it to “identify, mobilize, and provide, at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.”

“This action will help alleviate the hardship and suffering that the emergency may inflict on the local population, and provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures … to save lives, protect property, and ensure public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in all 46 South Carolina counties,” Trump’s order stated.

Trump’s FEMA administrator Brock Long designated Willie G. Nunn as the federal coordinating officer for recovery efforts in the Palmetto State.
