Chris Christie Endorses Donald Trump

NOW THAT’S “YUGE!” New Jersey governor Chris Christie – one of the establishment “Republican” candidates whose presidential prospects were consumed by the Donald Trump juggernaut – has endorsed the GOP frontrunner’s candidacy. “Donald is a leader,” Christie said.  “He is a successful person (who), like me, isn’t afraid to tell…

NOW THAT’S “YUGE!”

New Jersey governor Chris Christie – one of the establishment “Republican” candidates whose presidential prospects were consumed by the Donald Trump juggernaut – has endorsed the GOP frontrunner’s candidacy.

“Donald is a leader,” Christie said.  “He is a successful person (who), like me, isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.  Our system is broken and it won’t be fixed from the inside. I am proud to offer my endorsement of his candidacy for President.”

Trump said he and Christie “have had a wonderful relationship for many years” and that he was “proud to receive the support of the Governor and his family.”

In addition to supporting Trump, Christie also ripped the GOP establishment’s choice for the “Republican” presidential nomination – calling U.S. Senator Marco Rubio “desperate” and running a “losing campaign.”

He also mocked Rubio for wearing “a pile of makeup” during televised debates.

In the early days of the 2016 campaign, Christie – in his second-term as governor of New Jersey – was considered a favorite to win the GOP nod.  But then “Bridge-gate” happened.  That scandal involved lanes on the George Washington Bridge – which were closed in a deliberate attempt to create traffic jams in Fort Lee, New Jersey (home of a mayor who failed to support Christie’s 2013 reelection bid).

In the aftermath of the petty political drama, dominos fell.  Hard.  Some of them reached all the way to the Palmetto State.

The scandal changed the complexion of the race …

On Christmas Eve of 2013, Christie led U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky in the GOP presidential race – drawing 20 percent support to Paul’s 14.4 percent.  Three months later, Christie’s support had been cut in half – and it never eclipsed the 12 percent mark in national polling the rest of the way, according to aggregate data compiled by RealClearPolitics.

After Christie, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker inherited the frontrunner roles – but their establishment campaigns were swallowed up by Trump’s populist, anti-establishment insurgency, which began its meteoric ascent in early June 2015.

This website has been harshly critical of Christie – who campaigned in South Carolina on behalf of liberal U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and repeatedly buttered up the state’s status quo governor, Nikki Haley.

But there’s no denying his decision to endorse Trump is a major unexpected crack in the establishment’s armor – especially given his willingness to go after Rubio.

Take a look …

During the presser I found it amusing that the Trump the king of comb overs was commenting on Rubio’s use of makeup before the Debate.

Rubio really yanked Trump’s chain. Donald is going overboard on insults today. Rubio hit him pretty good today at his rally too. Mocked Donald’s nutty tweets from last night and detailed Trump’s backstage meltdown too.

That’s why Christie never went after Donald during the debates. He knew it was over for him, so he is jockeying for VP or AG in a possible Trump administration.

Trump: Cruz is practicing how to smile, Rubio is taking a bath, Christie is down at the Krispy Kreme, think it will be Christie as soon as he gets his blood sugar up

[Hagen is silent for a long moment]

Tom Hagen: Christie. I always thought it would be Cruz

Trump: It’s the smart move. Christie was always smarter.

Even though I hate Christie’s fat Neocon ass, he is as smart as a whip. He single-handedly destroyed the Rubiobot.

Just goes to show though, that you can be smart and still wrong sometimes- like Christie’s authoritarian fat ass.

Sunrise and sunset

Since the beginning, it hasn’t changed yet

I say some people fly high begin to lose sight

You can’t see very clear when you’re in flight

Well it’s high time

That you find

The same people you misuse on your way up

You might meet on your way down

You think the sun rise and set for you

The same sun rise, set, and shine on the poor folks too

But I don’t mind, you’re turning around

I myself would like a little higher ground

Well it’s high time

That you found

The same people you walk all on your way up

You might meet on your way down

On your way (Down, down, down) x3

On your way down

On your way down

She’s so fine, and her Mercedes is cool

It’s your thing, It’s your thing, it pleases you

You got to frown, when you cross town

You think it’s an honor just to have you ’round

Well it’s high time

That you find

The same dudes you misuse on your way up

You might meet on your way down

This is the weirdest election ever……….

That’s a reference to Christie having prosecuted Kushner, a New Jersey real estate tycoon, in a totally insane early-2000s case that involved Kushner hiring a prostitute to seduce his own brother-in-law and then having a recording of their tryst sent to his (Kushner’s) sister. Kushner was sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 after reaching a plea agreement with Christie. In 2009, Kushner’s son Jared married Trump’s daughter Ivanka. Jared Kushner now frequently appears onstage at Trump campaign events.

————–

Dec 2015 Trump on Christie & Bridgegate

“They’re closing up the largest bridge in the world—the biggest in the United States—traffic flowing during rush hour,” Trump continued. “People couldn’t get across for six, seven hours. Ambulances. Fire trucks.

“They’re with him all the time, the people that did it,” he added. “They never said, ‘Hey, boss, uh, we’re closing up the George Washington Bridge.’ No, they never said that, they’re talking about the weather? Right?”

“He knew about it,” Trump concluded. “He totally knew about it. He’s got a very friendly group of people over there.”

Rival campaigns drew reporters’ attention to a story about Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, getting $93 million in tax breaks from Christie’s state government to build a high-rise in Jersey City. “I know a lot of people thought he was going after Marco on behalf of Jeb,” one Rubio backer said privately about Christie’s attack on Rubio two debates ago. “But I said even then, the Jersey connection made me think he was doing Trump’s dirty work.”

Sadly, all this comes out too late. Everything Rubio brought up last night has should have been slung at Trump back in the fall. There’s more out there about his real jobs and financial record, especially internationally.

Looks like a good combo. Christie probably is more well-known than any of the other candidates. In some way, I could not put my finger on, I thought they were too much alike and it would not be a good fit.
Realizing his fate in the primaries, is he being an opportunist or is this heartfelt? Either way, this keeps Christie’s options open in the world of politics.
