Wondering how many more times in the future Nikki will define herself and her administration by mentioning Senator Pinckney and the Charleston Massacre in her speeches…

The Charleston Massacre defines not only Nikki Haley, it defines our state. Unfortunately, that it happened here defines us, but our reaction to it also defines us. This was the first State of the State address since the tragedy. Recounting the events of the past year is traditional and appropriate. The sentiments that your remarks imply are inappropriate.

“The Charleston Massacre defines not only Nikki Haley, it defines our state. ”

You really are a collectivist idiot sometimes.

The massacre defines neither moron. It’s an anomaly, nothing more. The fact you buy in doesn’t reflect well on you.

Anomaly or not, when ever anyone Googles South Carolina or studies its past, they will find out about the Charleston massacre and I believe that the states peaceful and spiritual response has had an impression on people arround the world on their perception on South Carolina. The fact is, we are defined not by ourselves but by how other perceive us.

I just “googled” South Carolina champ and the first two pages mention NOTHING about the Charleston massacre.

You know what a major factor is in how people perceive you? How you define yourself…and for that Haley gets a big fat “F”.

If you think the rest of the nation defines us by Charleston you’re even more stupid than I initially thought.

Bible Thumper January 21, 2016 at 9:23 am

I Googled on an Android phone and got this hit on the first page that discusses the Charleston massacre.
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/06/23/us/south-carolina-confederate-flag-dylann-roof.html?_r=0&referer=

Also at the bottom was a section on related searches. The first one was “South Carolina shooting”.

You must really think I’m stupid. ;-)

Uh huh January 21, 2016 at 10:17 am

I call “bullshit” on this. I just googled on my mobile and the first two pages don’t have any Charleston massacre information listed either. Maybe it comes up on your phone because you’re the one obsessed over it.

Jacob January 22, 2016 at 6:16 pm

Anyone who thinks what happened at Mother Emanuel was an anomaly doesn’t know the history of South Carolina or the United States. Plain and simple.

It’s not the Governor’s fault that you’ve decided to be ignorant of history.

No man, seriously, it’s like every time she speaks in public, she has this checklist of things that she has to mention. Kind of like those bags of miniature candy bars with, “a little something for everyone” on the outside, she has little shout-outs to this group and that to score her political “Brownie points” and the “Charleston Massacre and Senator Pinckney” have become indelibly etched into her paradigm.

I can see her if (God forbid) she is VP, twenty years down the road, incorporating “Senator Pinckney and the Charleston Massscre” into every speech.

You don’t like Nikki Haley. Your objectivity is clouded. There not a speech she could possibly deliver that you would approve, unless she spent the entire time being self critical. Self criticism sometimes is a good thing. Maybe corruptionincolumbia should try it sometime.

“You don’t like Nikki Haley. Your objectivity is clouded. ”

and your a sycophant of hers, so you have no room to speak either.

CorruptionInColumbia January 21, 2016 at 9:14 am

True, I don’t like her. Even so, her speeches have taken being cliche’, pandering, and unoriginal, to the next level.

I will give you credit regarding self-critique. There is always room for that for any of us.

flip January 21, 2016 at 10:32 am

She destroyed her national political ambitions by supporting Amnesty in her SOTU response and pulling a ‘Haley’ by attacking Rubio for supporting Amnesty.

Exposed as a LIAR,time after time whether it is immigration, taxes or Planned Parenthood….or affairs or DSS….or the confederate flag….

I agree with your sorry ass. Snow tonight.

Rocky Verdad January 21, 2016 at 11:02 am

Man, if she’s a good governor, you shouldn’t have traffic problems tomorrow up there. If she sucks, I-85 is gonna blow chunks.

Sic Semper Tyrannis January 21, 2016 at 11:06 am

I live in the swamps of the low country. They may get a good one up there.

Rocky Verdad January 21, 2016 at 11:30 am

Just south of the only real city in this state, and I’m not expecting any snow.

Sic Semper Tyrannis January 21, 2016 at 11:51 am

Think I know about where.

Rocky Verdad January 21, 2016 at 11:59 am

Yup. South of Barnwell:)

flip January 21, 2016 at 10:26 am

She is trying to ride this massacre into the White House it it just ain’t gonna happen.

Let the people rest in peace.Nobody outside of Haley cares about this anymore-not even the black community. They got what they wanted. The confederate flag is down.

Reply
Jacob January 22, 2016 at 6:14 pm

First and most importantly, go fuck yourself.

Second, plenty of people still care “about this”. As a white male growing up in rural SC, I was taught that life matters––and also that terrorism should be taken seriously. So I care “about this”. And I know that the families and friends who are in deep pain still care “about this”. Emanuel AME still cares “about this”. List goes on — just because there’s something wrong with you doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with everyone else.

Third, “[t]hey got what they wanted. The confederate flag is down” is an incredibly ignorant comment. You don’t get to speak for the black community. The confederate flag coming down is not the only thing they wanted either. And on a fundamental level, there is something wrong with suggesting that it doesn’t matter what happens to an entire group of people so long as you “give them something” to appease them.

I’m disappointed in your cynicism. Can’t the people of this state come together and agree on anything. I think most have.

I’m disappointed in your ignorance. I’ll tell you what…if she “drops the mic” and bows out of politics after this term as the governor, then I will retract all of my cynicism, as should many others.

However, squeezing the blood out of the rock in the Charleston shooting has really gone too far. It is disingenuous at this point, and wreaks of nothing but pompous, self-serving political drivel, especially in light of her flip-flopping on the confederate flag (as pointed out by Willie).

I just read where a Saskatchewan (Canada) school had a shooting incident on campus with at least two known dead.

I guess 0bama will be on TV soon, telling us how we need more “sensible” gun laws.

Her hopes for VP slot, cabinet position, or influence in GOP circles in the future are tied to the Charleston Massacre and the Confederate flag issue. Those outside SC seem to be oblivious to her position on the flag during the 2014 reelection campaign — a position which revealed her true colors.

“And I will continue to pray that God gives me…” Which god? The Methodist god she pretends to worship on the campaign trail and during public events or the “One Constant” of Sikhism to which she paid obeisance after her election victory? Can’t have it both ways.
